Pendleton County High School’s volleyball program has faced a sudden change as head coach Marian Rice’s tenure was cut short.
According to her, the decision was not hers, but rather the result of persistent mental games, bullying, and harassment from adults connected to the program.
Despite her dedication and three years of service, where she helped make history with the team, invested time in youth involvement, and built strong bonds with players, her coaching role was taken away.
The consequence of these conflicts was that Rice was told she would not be returning next season.

PCHS Head Volleyball Coach Stepped Out From Her Coaching Career After Three Years Marked By Challenges!
In a heartfelt Facebook post, coach Marian Rice shared her experience and emotions surrounding the abrupt end of her coaching journey.
She explained how deeply she cared for the program and the girls she coached.
Further, she highlighted the countless hours, effort, and tears she poured into building the volleyball program and youth initiatives.
Rice mentioned the painful reality that her passion was overshadowed by individuals who “didn’t get their way” during the season, ultimately leading to her dismissal.
She further said:
I had my experience cut too short because people didn’t get their way and things didn’t go how they wanted it to during the season. I would have given anything to return to coaching next year but no matter what I would have said or tried doing, the damage had been done and people who couldn’t even fathom to understand got what they wanted. They crushed someone who was passionate about the sport, the program, and the students success and growth more than anything, and it led to her being told not to come back next season.
Yet she also expressed gratitude for the memories, the support of parents and players, and the joy of organizing fun activities such as lock-ins, senior nights, and youth engagement.
She concluded her post with faith and resilience, stating:
I pray whoever comes next continues the programs I started to keep the youth involved! They deserve it! Now onto the next chapter![]()
Thank you all!
People responded with empathy and support, sharing their perspectives and highlighting Marian’s passion and dedication.
One commenter highlighted Mariah’s dedication, saying,
I hate this for you as I know the passion and love you have for it. But you are correct. God has another plan already in place for you. Love ya girl.
Another shared,
I’m so sorry you are going through this. I know you had great passion for coaching & every girl on your team. Prayers for whatever God has in store for your next journey.
Likewise, another highlighted the school’s unchanged issues, saying:
I see nothing has changed at PCHS. I’m sorry you had to deal with so much. They were lucky to have you!!
These reactions bring forward their sorrow over the situation and their belief that she deserves better opportunities ahead.
