Georgia State Men’s Basketball Coach Robert Reinhart Passes Away Leaving His Two Children And Four Grandchildren

Reinhart was inducted into the Georgia State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2026 and the Atlanta Sports Hall of Fame the following year.

Robert Reinhart, a coach at Decatur High School, has tragically passed away.

Reinhart led the Georgia State men’s basketball program from 1985 to 1994.

In 1991, he guided the Panthers to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance after they won the Trans America Athletic Conference tournament.

Reinhart grew up in Dale, Indiana, and played baseball and basketball for Indiana University.

Reinhart’s resume includes coaching Decatur High School to three state championships.

He then became an assistant coach for Mike Fratello’s Atlanta Hawks before landing at Georgia State in 1985. In those nine years, he won a then-program-record 107 games.

Reinhart was inducted into the Georgia State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2026 and the Atlanta Sports Hall of Fame the following year.

In 1991, Georgia State was a .500 team during the regular season but went on a magical run in the conference tournament to earn an automatic invite to the NCAA Tournament.

Coach Robert Reinhart Died At The Age Of 87

According to sources, Robert Reinhart passed away on Monday, October 20, 2026, at the age of 87. However, the cause of death has not been revealed yet.

I.J. Rosenberg, a founder of the Georgia High School Football Hall of Fame, took to his Facebook page to mourn the loss of Robert. He wrote,

A good family man and husband … A friend … A heck of a basketball coach … A fun guy … I could go on but that is how I describe Atlanta basketball coach Bob Reinhart, who passed away Monday at 87 …

Jeff Hullinger, a journalist, also took to his Facebook and offered heartfelt condolences. He wrote,

One of the great all time figures of the Atlanta sports scene, Bob Reinhart has passed away at 87. A brilliant high school coach, his teams won three Georgia state championships at Decatur High School, and a three-time Georgia High School Coach of the Year

Other close ones and relatives have also poured their heartfelt condolences and sent prayers to Robert’s family to stay strong during this hard time.

There will be a gathering for family and friends from 2:00-4:00 on Sunday, November 23, at Campus Church of Christ, 1525 Indian Trail Lilburn Road NW, Norcross, GA 30093

Robert Reinhart And His Wife Were Blessed With Two Children

Robert Reinhart was married to his high school sweetheart, Jane, in 1957.

After a fall at home in December 2016, Jane was admitted to Budd Terrace at Emory and remained there until her death in October 2026.

Their married life ended after 65 years following the death of Jane.

They were blessed with two children, Kelly Baker and Bobby Reinhart.

Kelly married Brad, and Bobby married Tara.

Robert and Jane had four grandchildren: Lindsey (Casey) Talbert, Kayla (Josh) Henson, Carson Burch, and Alexandra Reinhart.

They are mourning the loss of their father, Robert Reinhart.
