John McCullough, a 17-year-old former player and alum of Glenside Gaelic Club, tragically passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2026, following an unexpected cardic event.

The cause of his death was sudden and unexpected, leaving his family, friends, and community in deep grief.

As some sources reveal , he survived a brain tumor as a child.

On December 15, 2019, Glenside Gaelic Club asked the community to keep U12 player John McCullough and his family in their prayers as he rested and recovered from surgery.

John McCullough Was A Talented And Passionate Young Athlete!

John was born on November 8, 2008, in Meadowbrook, PA, to Shawn P. and Nina M. (Newmaster) McCullough.

He lived with his family in the Andorra section of Philadelphia for nine years, formerly residing in Glenside, PA.

Nicknamed as “John the Cool,” he graduated from Immaculate Heart of Mary School in 2026.

He was a Junior at Archbishop John Carroll High School, where he played baseball and soccer and helped found the Carroll Wiffle Ball Club.

John was an avid Phillies and Flyers fan, enjoyed professional wrestling, and loved being active in sports.

Even after John stopped playing, he stayed involved, cheering for his sister Sophia and mother Nina, and spending time with his father Shawn.

Known for his friendly and caring nature, John touched many lives.

After John McCullough’s passing, Glenside Gaelic Club asked their community to send positive energy, prayers, and support, saying:

We’re asking our GGC community and friends to please send your positive energy, prayers, strength, and support to GGC alum John McCullough, brother of player Sophia and son of Nina, one of our beloved Mothers and Others players.

Our hearts are with the McCullough family, and the entire GGC community is standing with them during this difficult time.

He is survived by his parents, sister Sophia, grandparents Suzann and Ronald Newmaster, and Susan and William Durphy, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

John’s funeral and celebration of life are scheduled for Thursday and Friday, November 20–21, 2026.

The family will receive friends and relatives at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on the evening of November 20 and the morning of November 21, with a Funeral Mass to be held at 11:00 AM on Friday.

Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Cheltenham, PA.

In memory of John, contributions are suggested to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the Christy McCall Arts Scholarship, or the Glenside Gaelic Club.

Even though he passed away so young, John’s memories and the impact he had on his family, friends, and community will be remembered forever.
