Tuscaloosa, Alabama Community Mourns Former Holt High and Wingate University Basketball Star, Joshua Strozier, Survived By Parents, Donna and Ronald and Family

Joshua Strozier, a Tuscaloosa, Alabama native and exceptional athlete, passed away at an untimely age, leaving his family and loved ones devastated.
While Joshua Strozier’s family hasn’t yet revealed the actual cause of his untimely death, many of his loved ones are paying tribute to him and recalling his memories on social media.
One wrote:
“A genuine soul gone too soon 🥺🤞🏽you broke me with this one brother 💔Fly high brother🕊️Rest Easy.”

Jordyn Brooker GeerJoshua Strozier touched the lives of many in the community with his amazing athletic skills, excelling in multiple sports, and his generous and cheerful nature.
Late Joshua Strozier began his athletic career as a talented multi-sport athlete at Holt High School in Holt, Alabama, where he graduated in the Class of 2018.
Standing at 6’6″, Joshua excelled in both varsity football and basketball. He played as a wide receiver, defensive end, and free safety, wearing jersey #2 for Holt Varsity Football from 2015 to 2017.
In basketball, Joshua was equally impressive, playing as a small forward and shooting guard, wearing jersey #24 for Holt High School’s boys’ varsity basketball team from 2015 to 2017.
During his junior season, he earned third-team All-State honors, averaging 19.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game.
Known for his dedication and strength, he posted a 235-pound bench press, 315-pound squat, and a 185-pound clean, showcasing his overall athletic ability.
In addition to football and basketball, Joshua also excelled in track and field, winning 2nd place in the 4A State Championship in his senior year.
Late Joshua Strozier Continued His Athletic Career At Wingate University and Lawson State Community College
After his remarkable journey at Holt High School, Joshua Strozier further continued his athletic career at Wingate University.
Strozier began at Wingate University during the 2018–19 season as a freshman, averaging 7.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game while shooting 45.3% from the field and 36% from three-point range.
After a redshirt sophomore year at Wingate with no recorded stats, he moved to Shelton State for the 2026–21 season, appearing in 22 games but seeing limited playing time, averaging just 1.1 points per game.
He then transferred to Lawson State Community College for the 2026–22 season, where he had a strong showing, averaging 16.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game with a 49% field goal percentage.
In 2026–23, he joined Tennessee Wesleyan as a junior. Over his NCAA Division II career, he compiled averages of 4.3 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 0.7 assists per game, shooting 46.3% from the field, 31% from three, and 59.2% from the free-throw line. Standing at 180 lbs, Joshua was known for his versatility and athleticism as a forward.
Joshua Strozier’s remarkable contributions to the Alabama community, both as an outstanding athlete and through his kind nature, will always be remembered.
Joshua is survived by his parents, Donna and Ronald ‘Ronnie’ Strozier, brother Ronald Jr. ‘Ronny’ Strozier, and his wife, sister, Tonya Taneka Cooks, and her husband, grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, and the entire family.
