The Fort Pierce, Florida, community is mourning the untimely death of beloved native former professional football player and coach, Terry Beauford.
Terry Beauford passed away earlier this week at the age of 57, leaving his family and loved ones devastated. Details surrounding his untimely death are not yet disclosed.
Born on March 27, 1968, in Fort Pierce, Terry began his athletic journey at Fort Pierce Central High School, where he excelled in football.
He further continued his athletic career at Florida A&M University, from which he earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a minor in physical education in 1991.
Throughout his tenure as an exceptional football player at FAMU, Terry Beauford played as an offensive lineman for the Rattlers during the Ken Riley Era, and was a two-time SBN All-American, NCAA 1AA All-America, and a three-time First Team All-MEAC selection.
For his exceptional collegiate journey, FAMU inducted Terry into the 2009 Hall of Fame.
After his remarkable collegiate journey, Beauford was selected by the San Diego Chargers of the NFL in the seventh round of the 1991 NFL draft.
Terry further played three seasons in the NFL for both San Diego (1991) and Green Bay (1992, 1993), before a two-year stint in the Canadian Football League’s Shreveport (La.) Pirates (1994, 1995).
He also played for the Tampa Bay Storm of the AFL as an offensive guard from 1996 to 2000.
Terry Beauford Spent 15 Years Serving as Football Coach
In addition to being an amazing athlete, Terry Beauford was a great coach who spent 15 years of his life serving as a collegiate football coach.
He began his coaching career at Hampton University in 1997, serving as the defensive tackles coach for the Pirates, leading his team to its first MEAC championship.
Terry continued his coaching journey as an Offensive Coordinator and assistant head coach at Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee, for two years (1998-99). He also served as assistant athletic director at Lane.
After two years at Lane, Beauford returned to Hampton University as the offensive line coach, leading his team in numerous victories from 2000 to 2004.
Furthermore, Terry went on to become the head football coach at Morehouse College in Atlanta, serving in his position for two years (2005-2006) and then returned to the Pirates as an Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach, where he served until 2011.
Beyond his coaching career, Terry Beauford served as special assistant to the CEO and vice president of Athletic Program Development at Fort Pierce Athletic Academy.
From 2012 until his recent passing, Terry was serving as a resident life director at Allen University.
His contribution to the sports community and his kind nature will always be remembered. Many of Terry’s loved ones are paying tribute to him and extending their heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time.
Terry Beauford is survived by his longtime wife, Yulonda Daren-Beauford, his daughter Tierra Briana Beauford, and the entire family.
His family will soon provide details about the funeral and memorial services.
