Carolyn Marie alleges that her 12-year-old daughter threatened to take her own life due to bullying in her high school.
Her daughter’s two friends, who didn’t want to stand up to the bully, thankfully reached out to her.
High school has become a place of stress and fear for some students because of bullying. While bullying has many causes, one of the most common and painful roots is simple jealousy.
Jealousy can spring up over many things, including a good grade, a spot on a sports team, a new romantic relationship, or even being well-liked.
Instead of feeling inspired or happy for their peer, a jealous person might feel threatened and angry. This negative emotion can then twist into bullying behavior.
The target is often confused because they are being targeted for something positive in their own life that the bully feels they lack.
High school is a journey for everyone. Lifting each other rather than pushing each other down makes it a better experience for all.

A Mother’s Warning: York Springs Cheerleader Bullied to the Brink of Suicide
Carolyn Marie alleges that over a month ago, her “beautiful, quirky, bubbly” daughter, a JV cheerleader and honor roll student, threatened to take her own life.
She states the cause was a relentless campaign of bullying by a middle school peer.
According to Marie, the bullying included cruel name-calling, malicious comments, and a social ostracization that left her daughter completely isolated.
She was allegedly kicked out of her friend group, booted from her lunch table, and blocked on social media by her so-called friends.
The harassment even extended to cheerleading practice, where whispers were made to get her to quit.
She felt alone & in her words a bother, and unwanted.
Carolyn MarieThankfully, two other students alerted Marie, allowing her to intervene.
Since the incident, her daughter has begun therapy, made the JV team for winter cheer with a supportive coach, and is taking steps to heal.
She has also drastically cut back on social media.
Marie ended her post with a powerful plea to parents, teachers, and coaches to pay attention.
She urges adults not to dismiss changes in a child’s behavior as “teen hormones” and to ask the difficult questions, emphasizing that speaking up can save a life.
I’m a clinical social worker and work inpatient psych with adolescents it’s heartbreaking the number of kids that are suicidal due to bullying at school. So glad you’ve got her in therapy! Sending hugs.
