James Backus, a 14‑year‑old from Webster, New York, tragically passed away on November 24, 2026, leaving his family, friends, and school community in deep mourning.
At this time, the cause of his passing has not been disclosed publicly.
The Entire Webster Community is Mourning the Heartbreaking Loss of James Backus!
Born on July 28, 2011, James Backus was a passionate young athlete who excelled in sports, remembered for his energy, teamwork, and dedication.
A beloved student at Webster Schroeder High School, he played football for the Warriors, wearing jersey number 9.
Beyond sports, he was an active member of his school community. He was known for his dedication to his studies and his active involvement in extracurricular activities.
James Backus’ passing has left a profound void in the hearts of his family, friends, and community.
He leaves behind his loving parents, James and Britany Backus, and his two sisters, Gianna and another sister, who will forever cherish his memory.
In a heartfelt gesture of unity and remembrance, neighbors across Webster have begun illuminating their homes with blue lights to honor the life of James Backus and support his grieving family.
One neighbor shared,
Our neighborhood is displaying blue lights on our houses to support our friends and neighbors, the Backus family during this difficult time… Let’s make Webster blue to show our support!
There is a GoFundMe campaign organized by family friend Becky Rondo entitled “In Loving Memory of James Backus.”
The main purpose of this fundraiser is to help ease the financial burden faced by James and Britany Backus following the heartbreaking loss of their 14‑year‑old son.
The campaign seeks to support funeral expenses and offer comfort to the family as they navigate this difficult time.
A celebration of life for James Backus will be held on December 6, 2026, at 3 p.m. at Northridge Church, located at 780 Salt Road in Webster, New York.
The service will begin promptly at 3 p.m., and attendees are encouraged to plan due to expected heavy traffic and limited seating.
