The sports community in northern Virginia and beyond is mourning the heartbreaking news of talented athlete and beloved young man, Demetrius Lamar Hembry’s untimely passing
Demetrius Lamar Hembry, also known as “Meech” or “Big Meech,” passed away on December 30, 2026, at the age of 26.
The specific cause of his death has not been publicly disclosed, with his family requesting privacy during this difficult time.
Born on March 17, 1999, in Virginia to his mother, Lebika Hembry Williams (also referred to in some accounts as Labika), Demetrius grew up with a passion for football that defined much of his early life.
He attended Broad Run High School in Ashburn, where he made a huge impact on the Boys Varsity football team from 2014 to 2016.
Wearing jersey #2, he played as a running back (RB), free safety (FS), and more, earning a reputation as one of Northern Virginia’s toughest tailbacks.
A dangerous punt returner, receiver, and defensive back, Demetrius amassed an impressive 2,057 rushing yards during his high school career.
His explosive plays and versatility shone through in standout performances, including memorable games where he racked up big yardage and touchdowns, helping Broad Run compete at a high level in the region.
After high school, Demetrius continued his football journey at Milford Academy, where he played Men’s Varsity football in 2017 as a running back wearing #17.
He graduated in 2019, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, determination, and team spirit that inspired younger players.
His mother shared a heartfelt announcement on social media:
“Demetrius Lamar Hembry Passed Away December 30, 2026. Rest In Paradise Son & Fly High. You Will Truly Be Missed. You Will Always Be Remembered Son.”

Friends and former classmates remember the person as funny, kind, and memorable for their smile.
Noah McLaughlin wrote,
“Always were a roll model for me. I wish this was a dream but unfortunately it isn’t and now I have to say. Rest in peace Big Meech. I love you and will always miss you cuz.”

Via FacebookTo honor Demetrius’s memory, his mother has organized a Candlelight Vigil & Balloon Release on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. at Broad Run High School.
Attendees are encouraged to bring candles, balloons, and photos to share as the community comes together to celebrate his life and offer support to his grieving family.
Demetrius Hembry’s story is one of talent, resilience, and warmth, a young man whose presence on the field and off made a lasting impression.
Though gone far too soon, his spirit endures in the memories of those he touched, the games he played, and the love he shared.
