Dante Jovon Core, a freshman defensive back for the Ole Miss football team, was recently arrested for drug possession following a high-speed traffic stop in Andalusia, Alabama.

Core, a three‑star recruit from Choctawhatchee High School in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, earned his place on the Rebels’ roster wearing jersey number 28.

Before joining the Rebels, he was a standout at Choctawhatchee High School in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, where his performances earned him attention from multiple top‑tier college football programs.

He was recruited by schools including Auburn, Missouri, Arkansas, LSU, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Troy, Tulane, Boston College, South Florida, and NC State.

Core initially committed to Auburn before flipping his commitment to Ole Miss on November 11, 2026.

At Ole Miss, Core quickly became recognized as a promising young defensive back. Currently, he was preparing with Ole Miss to face Georgia on January 1, 2026, in the Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.

But the arrest incident has overshadowed those preparations.

Dante Core’s Arrest and Its Impact on His Football Future!

On December 27, 2026, Core was arrested in Andalusia, Alabama, following a high‑speed traffic stop.

According to police reports, officers clocked his BMW 3 Series traveling at 111 miles per hour without a visible license plate near U.S. Highway 29 and Brooklyn Road.

Upon stopping the vehicle, officers detected the odor of marijuana, prompting a search that uncovered marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Then, Core was taken into custody and booked into the Covington County Jail, facing charges of Possession of Marijuana II and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Authorities noted that he was cooperative throughout the encounter.

The arrest has drawn attention not only because of the charges but also due to his status as a collegiate athlete.

While authorities noted that Core was cooperative during the arrest, the incident has cast uncertainty over his immediate future.

As a freshman defensive back and three‑star recruit, Core had been preparing to play in the upcoming Allstate Sugar Bowl.

Now, his legal situation may affect his standing with the team, his playing eligibility, and potentially his long‑term career trajectory, as disciplinary action from the university or athletic program could follow, depending on the resolution of the case.
