Amanda K. Worley of Ohio has watched her oldest child navigate the challenging years of adolescence with resilience, determination, and courage.
As her teen entered his teen years, Amanda found herself more emotional, anxious, and overprotective than ever.
She has witnessed firsthand the hard work her son puts into sports, health, and personal growth—and it has been both inspiring and heart-wrenching.
Her teen, a bigger boy navigating wrestling and football for the first time, has faced unique challenges.
Yet, he has consistently shown up for workouts, practice, and matches, never giving up despite the physical and emotional hurdles.
Amanda has observed her son carefully managing his diet, gaining and losing weight along the way, while working tirelessly to overcome pre-diabetes.
This past year, she has noticed significant changes—not just physically, but emotionally—as he slims down and grows into a young man.
His A1C levels have improved, and he has become more confident in himself, even as he battles the self-doubt that often weighs heavier than any opponent.
Amanda’s love for her son shines through in her words.
“I never want my baby to worry about his weight,” she shared, reflecting on the unique pressures wrestling can bring.
“Yes, he’s a heavyweight, and that’s why I’m there. If I’m not working, I’m screaming way too loud because win or lose, I know the struggles he has. I’m beyond grateful for his will and dedication.”
FacebookWatching her teen face setbacks, however, still hurts her deeply. Recently, a doctor told him he had gained seven pounds.
Despite Amanda’s reassurances, she watched her son’s face fall, and her heart broke seeing him feel defeated.
“He’s the most amazing kid and so humble. I know this is life, but all I want is for him to enjoy sports and life and not worry. He’s amazing,” she said.
Amanda recognizes she cannot protect her son from everything, but she is committed to supporting him every step of the way.
She continues to cheer loudly at meets and practices, even if it embarrasses him, because she knows the value of encouragement.
“I’m proud of him and all his work. I will always support and overprotect him. That’s my baby, and I’m keeping embarrassing him at meets because he’s doing amazing,” she said.
Her story resonates with parents everywhere. Supportive commenters have encouraged Amanda, with one writing, “As mommas, we are soooo protective of our babies! Keep doing you!”
Another added, “This right here is the definition of being a great mother. He’s going to be just fine. I’m proud of my family and I love you guys.”
Through wrestling, football, and health challenges, Amanda’s teen continues to show resilience and determination, and Amanda remains a steadfast source of love, support, and pride.
Watching him grow up is both emotional and rewarding, a journey of dedication, courage, and a mother’s unwavering heart.
