Neosho, Missouri Mourns the Loss of Former JHS Cheerleader and Rise Elementary Art Teacher Annie Strickling

NEOSHO, Mo. — The Neosho community is grieving after the sudden death of Annie Strickling, a 40 year-old-art teacher at RISE Elementary and a former JHS cheerleader.

Colleagues, parents, and students remembered Strickling for the warmth she brought into classrooms, the small kindnesses that made kids feel seen, and a bright energy that left a lasting impression on everyone she taught.

“As a parent, there are moments you never forget, especially when someone truly sees your child,” wrote Morgan Renner, one of many parents who posted a tribute.

“My son’s art teacher Annie Strickling did that. She saw him for who he is and loved him there. He loved her so much and described her as a rainbow.”

Renner’s post, shared with a photo and memories, captured how Strickling turned simple classroom moments into safety and joy for children.

A Great Teacher, and Even Greater Human

Parents and students described a teacher who went beyond lesson plans.

Addi Marn recalled ritualized Thursday donuts and braided hair after class: “Art days were always Everlee’s favorite, not because of art, but because of Miss Strickling. Everlee thought she hung the stars. … When E had issues or anxiety at school, she would tell Annie EVERYTHING. She was so much more than a teacher.”

Those details show how Strickling’s care reached into students’ lives in quiet, meaningful ways.

The news shocked families and staff. “That moment you get a notification that stops you in your tracks,” wrote Meleah Tucker-Yarnell.

On social posts, people who once had Strickling as a teacher, at RISE, at Carver, and other local schools, shared memories of how she helped children succeed and feel safe.

Family members have asked for privacy while the district and community process the loss; officials have not released detailed information about the circumstances, and friends cautioned against speculation.
