Minnesota, Shakopee Football Community Heartbroken Over Sudden Loss of 12-Year-Old Cooper Kennedy

Cooper Kennedy, a 12-year-old player from the Shakopee Youth Football Association, passed away unexpectedly on December 4, 2026.

He poured his whole heart into the things he loved, including playing baseball, suiting up for football, and spending time outside with friends in the pool and the park.

Cooper Kennedy was a bright light in the Shakopee community.

He was a sixth-grader and a member of the Shakopee Youth Football Association’s tackle team who played with the same dedication and heart that he brought to every part of his life.

Cooper was more than an athlete, known for his warmth and kindness. He had a special gift for making everyone around him feel valued and understood, building connections that left a lasting impact.

He poured his whole spirit into the moments, whether he was on the football field, playing baseball, swimming with friends, or enjoying the park.

His passing has left his community heartbroken, mourning a beloved young man whose loyalty, joy, and genuine kindness touched so many.

The community of Shakopee has suffered a terrible loss in the passing of one of our own, Cooper Kennedy. As you may know, he was a member of our 6th-grade youth tackle team. Shakopee Mourns 12-Year-Old Footballer Cooper Kennedy

Cooper Callen Patrick Kennedy was a beloved son, friend, teammate, and a bright light in the Shakopee community.

He passed away unexpectedly at the age of 12 on December 4, 2026.

Cooper was a remarkable young man whose vibrant spirit touched everyone he met.

He had an infectious smile that could light up a room and a quick wit that brought laughter to even the hardest days. He was the steady companion you could always count on, and his kindness was a quiet force.

His passions were rooted in action and the joy of being with others, spending time outdoors. He lived fully and enthusiastically, and the world felt better with him in it.

As Cooper’s family navigates this devastating loss, a community came together to establish a GoFundMe fundraiser to support them.

The aim is to ease the financial burdens associated with funeral costs, time away from work, grief support, and other unforeseen needs.

Any funds raised beyond immediate expenses will be directed by the family to support healing for Cooper’s siblings, friends, and community, and to create lasting tributes to his incredible spirit.

A gathering to honor Cooper’s bright spirit will be held on Monday, December 15, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at McNearney-Schmidt Funeral and Cremation, 1220 3rd Ave. E., Shakopee, MN.

Out of respect for the family’s privacy, the circumstance of his passing isn’t made public, and the family asked the community to honor their need for space, privacy, and peace as they grieve.

Cooper will be remembered not only for the games he played but for the light he brought, the friendships he nurtured, and the unforgettable mark he left on all who knew him.
