A video of 12‑year‑old Max, a young American soccer player, went viral after he tearfully told his mother about the anti‑immigrant bullying he faced during a game.
Despite just winning a two‑month‑long soccer tournament with his team, Max was unable to celebrate, as another child told him he was an “illegal immigrant” and should “go back to his country.”
The boy, born in the United States to immigrant parents, expressed confusion and pain, saying,
They said Trump is gonna get me and send me back to where I used to live, and I was born in America, I don’t live anywhere else.
Despite being American himself, Max struggled to understand why he was being targeted.

Max’s Tears Expose the Lasting Wounds of Anti‑Immigrant Bullying
CBS journalist Vladimir Duthiers brought the video to light, posting it on Facebook and sharing his own reflections.
In his post, he explained that Max’s victory was overshadowed by the cruel remarks.
As a father and someone who had also been bullied for looking different, he said Max’s words “broke my heart into pieces.”
Furthermore, he highlighted that the boy’s mother did not intend to create controversy by sharing the video.
Instead, she wanted to remind people how deeply our words and actions can affect one another, especially our children.
The focus of the post was not only on Max’s pain but also on the broader message of empathy and responsibility.
It pointed out the urgent need to reconsider how society’s rhetoric impacts young lives.
The post drew strong reactions from the public, with many expressing support and compassion for Max.
One person shared their POV, highlighting their support, saying:
He’s a beautiful strong boy!!! Tell him keep his head up!! What’s his sizes. Going to send him some gear soccer etc.
Another shared their heartbreak, remarking:
watching him try to make sense of the evil used against him broke my heart. 💔 we love you, max!.
Others echoed similar sentiments, saying:
This is heartbreaking. No kids or adults should be subject to such meanness and cruelty from others,
Likewise, another added:
Gut‑wrenching. 😭 Max—stand tall—you are already head and shoulders above many of our current elected leaders.
Bullying is more than just hurtful words or actions; it can deeply wound a child’s sense of safety and self‑worth.
