The Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) has officially ruled Cade Button eligible to compete for Clinton County High School.

The 2026 guard, one of the standout talents in the 4th Region, can now suit up and make an immediate impact in the final stretch of his senior season.

Button, a versatile 6’1″ point guard and shooting guard, transferred from Metcalfe County to Clinton County earlier this season.

He had previously averaged an impressive 23.0 points per game during his time with the Metcalfe County Hornets, where he was a key offensive leader and consistent scorer.

Known for his high basketball IQ, tight ball-handling, ability to score at all three levels, and knack for making teammates better, Button has long been recognized as one of the top guards in his region.

His high school journey began with varsity action as early as his freshman year in 2026-2026, wearing jersey #2 for Metcalfe County in Edmonton, KY.

He spent three seasons there as a primary ball-handler, earning praise for his scoring prowess and playmaking.

Notably, Button hit a major personal milestone in February 2026 when he scored his 1,000th career point, a moment proudly highlighted by Metcalfe County Schools on Instagram.

Button was born in July 2007 to parents Angie and Blake Button, and he grew up in Kentucky alongside his older brother Dax.

Basketball runs in the family, his father, Blake Button, previously served as the head boys’ basketball coach at Caverna High School in Horse Cave, Kentucky, from around 2010 to 2013.

Cade even has ties to Caverna from his middle school days under his dad’s coaching, and he wore #5 for the Caverna varsity team at one point in his earlier years.

The eligibility ruling comes after a period of uncertainty following his transfer, during which he missed some early games with Clinton County.

Fans and observers have expressed relief and enthusiasm now that the green light has been given, especially with only a handful of games left in the senior year.

Community reactions have been overwhelmingly positive. Carrington Maxey shared,

“Happy for the kid!! He’s suffered long enough with only a few games left in his senior year!!”

Meanwhile, Steve Kirkpatrick added,

“Always enjoy watching Cade play! Scores the ball, good ball handler, finds the open man that most always leads to a score/assist. Plays on the defensive end as well.”

These comments show the respect Button has earned for his all-around game and work ethic.

With Clinton County boasting a strong record this season, Button’s addition as a proven scorer and leader could prove pivotal as the team pushes toward the postseason.

His eligibility opens the door for exciting matchups and gives fans one more chance to see this talented guard shine on the court in what remains of his high school career.

Congratulations to Cade Button on the clearance. Here’s to a strong finish and continued success!
