Steve Milesko, a resident of Hardinsburg, Kentucky, recently shared a social media post emphasizing the importance of safety programs in high school sports
He stated every time a parent drops their child off at practice, there’s an unspoken trust placed in the coaching staff: “Keep them safe. Bring them home the same way I dropped them off.”
High school athletics carry inherent risks, and heat illness remains one of the leading causes of preventable tragedies in sports.
Recognizing this urgent issue, 7DOMAIN HEALTH™ launches a comprehensive Athlete Safety Program designed to protect young athletes while teaching them how to manage their own well-being.
Moving beyond simple water breaks, the program establishes a safety net that educates athletes on what their bodies truly need to stay safe and perform at their best.
In addition, the program introduces a Pre-Collegiate Readiness Curriculum that addresses the modern athlete’s exposure to data from devices like Whoops and Apple Watches, which often provide information that players cannot interpret.
This curriculum teaches athletes to understand their health data, differentiate between normal fatigue and dangerous signs, and take ownership of their recovery and readiness before stepping onto a college field.
The goal is to create knowledgeable, confident young adults who are prepared for the next level, giving parents peace of mind and athletes the tools to succeed.
Heat-related illnesses, particularly Exertional Heat Stroke (EHS), continue to be the leading preventable cause of death in high school athletics, especially during early-season football practices in August.
Athletes are often unacclimated to intense heat and humidity, and many schools lack comprehensive heat illness policies or fail to fully implement recommended prevention strategies.
Additionally, athletes with higher body fat are at greater risk, as it impairs heat dissipation.
The 7DOMAIN HEALTH™ Athlete Safety Program integrates evidence-based practices to reduce the risk of heat illness.
The program provides education and training for coaching staff on recognizing and responding to heat emergencies, implements gradual heat acclimatization strategies, monitors environmental conditions using tools like Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT), promotes proper hydration and nutrition, ensures rapid cooling methods such as cold-water immersion are available for immediate treatment, and establishes detailed emergency action plans to handle heat-related incidents.
By launching this program, 7DOMAIN HEALTH™ equips Kentucky schools with the resources needed to prevent severe heat-related emergencies, echoing national and statewide calls for stronger athlete safety protocols and ensuring young athletes can train and compete safely while preparing for future opportunities.
