Kentucky Parent Alleges Retaliation by Christian County High School After Winning Appeal

A parent in Hopkinsville raised concerns about how her daughter is being treated at Christian County High School, alleging a pattern of retaliation following a successful appeal to the school board.

In a detailed social media post that has sparked widespread discussion among residents, the mother, Malakor Ashley, described what she believes is ongoing targeting of her child by school officials.

According to her account, the situation started after an earlier incident in which another student reportedly took food from her daughter, but her daughter was the one who faced disciplinary action.

Ashley said she challenged that decision through the proper channels and ultimately won her appeal.

However, she now believes that victory may have led to unintended consequences.

Ashley claims that since the appeal, her daughter has been repeatedly pulled out of class several times a week, subjected to searches, and disciplined in ways she considers excessive.

One incident involved her daughter forgetting to place her phone in a required Yondr pouch, a system used by many schools to limit phone access during the day.

Although the phone was reportedly turned off and stored at the bottom of her backpack, Ashley says her daughter was still searching.

Ashley alleges that a prior disciplinary “major” offense, which had been removed, was later reinstated without a clear explanation.

When she contacted the school administration, she said she was told the issue was due to a clerical error and would be corrected.

Despite the assurance, Ashley states that the school board later denied a subsequent appeal and is now attempting to transfer her daughter to an alternative school.

“This doesn’t sit right,” Ashley wrote, pointing to what she sees as a troubling pattern: winning an appeal, speaking up, and then facing increased punishment.

The post grabbed responses from community members, many of whom expressed support and shared similar experiences.

Ashley to pursue legal action or file complaints with state education authorities. Others suggested contacting media outlets or elected officials to bring more attention to the situation.

Several individuals recounted their own or their children’s experiences within the same school system, describing what they perceived as inconsistent discipline or targeting of certain students.

Some commenters urged Ashley to review school policies, particularly those on student conduct and phone usage, suggesting that rules must be followed regardless of circumstances.

Ashley has indicated that she plans to escalate the matter by contacting the Kentucky Department of Education and civil rights organizations, and by sharing documentation of the incidents with school board members.

As of now, school officials have not publicly responded to the allegations.
