Karate Champion and Devoted Father Leonard Creer Leaves Lasting Legacy

Leonard Creer, a former legendary Sherman Oaks Karate team player, passed away in January 2026.

He was a true martial arts fighter who hadn’t been doing well since 2026.

Leonard Creer was a celebrated champion of the 1980s and 1990s American karate scene.

He trained under head coach Bernie Pops Krasnoo at the famous Sherman Oaks Karate team and became one of the era’s most skilled competitors, winning multiple national titles.

After his successful competitive career, he shared his expertise by coaching private lessons at the Sherman Oaks Karate Studio. He dreamed of expanding his passion for teaching, with plans to open his own school in Mississippi.

After graduating from Dorsey High School in 1983, he also worked at SAG.

Sadly, Leonard Creer has PASSED AWAY 😞 This California Legend was my Teammate on the Legendary SHERMAN OAKS KARATE 🥋 TEAM in the 1990’s under our HEAD COACH Bernie Pops Krasnoo 😞 AGES bring STAGES. It’s that STAGE now were my people are starting to depart.. REST in PEACE LEO.. it was also an Honor Fighting you 🙏🏼

Sherman Oaks Karate Star Leonard Creer Passes Away

Leonard Creer was a former standout of the legendary Sherman Oaks Karate team and a devoted father who passed away in January 2026.

His passing follows a period of declining health over the past year.

Leonard grew up alongside his sister, Adonna M. Creer, in the vibrant heart of Los Angeles, California.

He discovered his passion for martial arts and was known for his competitive spirit at the storied Sherman Oaks Karate team.

Unfortunately, Leo lost his last battle yesterday at about 1 pm. For those that can help the family, please reach out. Reach out to his widow, Caroline Carter Creer. All help is highly appreciated. So many life lessons in and out of the ring.

Leonard was a devoted family man, and his love for his family profoundly shaped his life.

He was married to Caroline Carter Creer and had two children, Elijah Creer and Kayla Creer. Though their marriage ended in divorce, he remained unwavering in his commitment as a father.

Leonard was a constant supportive presence in the lives of his children. He cheered enthusiastically from the sidelines for his son, who played football and basketball at Horace Mann Middle School.

Similarly, he proudly took to the dance floor with his daughter at a school event, which captured his joyful and loving spirit.

RIP to the great Leo!!!! It really was a landmark in those days that Long Beach was one of the biggest tournaments in the world. 🙏

Leonard Creer will be remembered as a fighter in the dojo and in his steadfast dedication to his children.

His legacy lives on through his children, Elijah and Kayla; his former wife, Caroline; his sister, Adonna; and all who knew his strength and his heart.

The Creer family will hold a memorial service to celebrate his life.
