Parents in Jonesborough, Tennessee, have withdrawn their daughter, Taylor, from her basketball team after what they describe as ongoing and unresolved bullying, choosing to prioritize her mental health and emotional well-being over continued participation in the sport.
Brittany Roberts, Taylor’s mother, shared that the family made the difficult decision only after careful consideration and repeated concerns about how the situation was handled.
She stated that persistent bullying affected Taylor both on and off the court and that adults responsible for oversight failed to intervene in a meaningful way.
“Our daughter’s well-being is our top priority, and we will always stand up for her,” Roberts said.
“After careful consideration, we decided to withdraw Taylor from the basketball team due to persistent bullying that was not addressed. Her mental health and emotional safety matter more than anything.”
FacebookRoberts emphasized that the decision did not reflect a lack of commitment or resilience on Taylor’s part.
Instead, the family viewed stepping away as an act of self-respect and protection.
“Leaving a toxic team doesn’t make you a quitter,” she added.
“It means you’ve decided your value is worth much more.”
FacebookAccording to family members and supporters, Taylor experienced bullying during games, from the sidelines, and even in locker room settings.
Relatives noted that despite raising concerns, no effective action followed. LaDonna Roberts, a family member, said watching the situation unfold felt heartbreaking, especially when adults in charge appeared to ignore what was happening.
“It was incredibly hard to watch her play and see the bullying continue while nothing was done,” she said.
“Taylor is one of the kindest kids I know, and she did not deserve that treatment.”
FacebookThe decision to withdraw Taylor sparked an outpouring of support from parents and community members, many of whom shared similar experiences involving their own children.
Several commenters praised Brittany Roberts for advocating for her daughter and for sending a strong message about the importance of mental health.
Parents from the community echoed that bullying remains a widespread issue in schools and youth sports, often going unaddressed despite policies that claim zero tolerance.
Some shared deeply personal stories of children who struggled emotionally, with a few describing situations that escalated into severe mental health crises.
Supporters also highlighted Taylor’s character and determination, describing her as positive, uplifting, and resilient.
One coach who worked with Taylor expressed pride in having her on the team and reaffirmed a commitment to protecting young athletes from bullying.
Roberts said she hopes Taylor will find a more supportive environment where she can continue to grow, whether in sports or other areas of life.
She also encouraged other parents to listen closely to their children and take action when something feels wrong.
“Taylor’s worth goes far beyond athletics,” Roberts said.
“She deserves kindness, respect, and safety. I believe she will thrive in a healthier, more supportive setting.”
FacebookAs conversations about bullying, accountability, and mental health continue, Taylor’s story has become a reminder to families and communities that protecting a child’s well-being must always come first—even when it means making painful or unpopular decisions.
