Hornets Football Team Coach Paul William Thoune’s Death Leaves a Deep Void In His Wife, Lisa, And the Menominee Community

A memorial bench at Blesch Field will honor Paul’s legacy for years to come.

The Menominee community is mourning the sudden loss of Paul William Thoune, who passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 13, 2026, at the age of 46.

Born on February 16, 1979, in Marinette, Wisconsin, Paul grew up surrounded by family, sports, and an unwavering love for his hometown.

Paul’s passion for athletics started early. He proudly wore the “Colts” uniform in Pop Warner football and remained deeply involved in sports throughout his time at Menominee High School, graduating in 1997.

Beyond football, he played baseball and rugby during the off-season and spent weekends enjoying darts and pool with friends.

A devoted fan of the Menominee Maroons, Paul later gave back to the community by coaching the Hornets football team for many years, shaping young athletes with his dedication and spirit.

Outside of sports, Paul found joy in the outdoors. He loved fishing, hunting, and spending time at camp surrounded by close friends and family.

When bad weather kept him inside, he turned any gathering into a competition, challenging loved ones to games of smear or cribbage—always with a laugh and a drink in hand.

On August 9, 2003, Paul married Lisa Salczenko, and together they raised their two sons, Brady and Lucas.

His children were the center of his world, and he spoke of them with immense pride and joy.

Known as a dependable and loving father, Paul built his life on showing up for the people he cared about.

Friends and family remember him as the first person to volunteer, the one who never hesitated to lend a hand.

Whether as a coach, relative, coworker, or friend, Paul made everyone feel seen and supported. His absence leaves a void that words cannot fill.

Paul is survived by his wife Lisa and their sons Brady and Lucas of Menominee; his father Bill of Menominee; his mother Debbie of Marinette; “Grandma J” of Menominee; his sister Melisa (Tim) Hendry of Marinette; nephews Alex and Michael; nieces Kaitlyn, Sam, Kimmy, and Autumn; and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.

Visitation will take place at Cadieu Funeral Home on Saturday, October 18, 2026, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Paul will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery (Menominee, Michigan).

In lieu of flowers, the family will place a memorial bench at Blesch Field in Paul’s honor. Expressions of kindness and sympathy may be directed to his wife, Lisa Thoune.

Paul William Thoune will be remembered for his laughter, loyalty, and the unwavering support he offered to everyone around him.

His legacy will live on in the lives he touched and the community he helped build.
