His death has not only brought grief to the school community, but the entire Cincinnati community also seems to be processing this loss.

While the cause of his death has not yet been revealed, many have expressed their sorrow and sympathy, sharing their memories of John.

One Facebook user expressed their grief, sharing the impact John had on their life, saying:

My heart is broken after learning of John’s passing. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing him for more than 30 years….he was my boss’s dearest friend. Whenever he called to talk with my boss we would talk for 5 or 10 minutes before I connected him to my boss/his friend. He was a joy to talk to and we were lucky to spend a week with him and his wife Amy in Panama in March 2026….a time now that we will now hold dearly in our memories. John, you will be missed more than I can express. God be with you, and we will pray for your family and friends in this most difficult time.

In the same post, another one commented;

I was fortunate to coach with John for 3 years. It’s no exaggeration to say John is one of the kindest people I’ve ever known. There were no bad days with John. And he truly loved working with the kids. I will miss him dearly. Prayers to the Getgey family.

Following his death, many members of the community have expressed their support and condolences to the family.

As of now, his wife Amy or other family members have not announced funeral or visitation details, but the school community may share further updates soon.

While the family takes time to process this difficult loss, we would like to express our heartfelt condolences to the Getgey family, friends, and everyone who knew him.

Rest in Peace, Coach!
