Former Louisiana Linebacker Jason Wayne Huff’s Death Brings Heartbreak to His Loved Ones and Those He Inspired

His memory lives on through the countless lives he touched as a father, mentor, and friend.

The death of Jason Wayne Huff has brought profound sorrow to his family and the many lives he touched throughout Louisiana.

Jason Wayne Huff passed from this life on December 15, 2026, at the University Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, surrounded by his loving family.

His passing marks the loss of a devoted husband, father, son, and friend whose life was defined by hard work, loyalty, and quiet strength.

Jason was born on February 1, 1981, in Monroe, Louisiana, to Jerry and Onngaleah Huff.

From an early age, he showed an adventurous spirit and boundless energy.

He loved being outdoors, getting dirty, riding with his father, watching World Wrestling Federation, and shooting his BB gun.

These early passions reflected the grit and enthusiasm that would define him throughout his life.

Jason attended Riverfield Academy, where he became well known for his sociable nature and love of football.

While he often entertained friends from his seat near the teachers’ desks, he earned respect for always taking responsibility for his actions and accepting consequences without complaint.

Faculty and staff admired him for his honesty, respect, and good heart.

On the football field, Jason played linebacker and led a tough defense with determination and fearlessness.

Though not the biggest player, he compensated with relentless effort, playing sideline to sideline with unmatched intensity.

His toughness, instinct for the ball, and refusal to quit earned him numerous honors and the admiration of teammates and coaches alike.

After graduating high school in 2000, Jason pursued a career in plumbing, using the skills he learned while working alongside his father.

As a Master Plumber and Master Natural Gas Fitter, he built a business known for integrity, quality, and fairness.

Jason took pride in doing the job right the first time and valued every customer he served.

It was also at Riverfield Academy where Jason met the love of his life, Alana Jill Truelove.

Their first date in 1999 marked the beginning of a lifelong love story.

Together, they made their home in East Carroll Parish along the banks of Joes Bayou, where they raised their sons, Colby and Carter.

Despite long workdays and demanding labor, Jason always made time for his boys.

He spent countless hours fishing, hunting, boat riding, checking trotlines, and coaching their pee wee football teams.

He never missed a game and stood on the sidelines every Friday night for the past eight years, offering hugs and encouragement no matter the outcome.

As an adult, Jason developed a deep passion for Native American history and became highly knowledgeable about local artifacts.

He also rediscovered his love for arm wrestling, traveling to competitions with his sons and earning numerous wins.

His curiosity, patience, and resourcefulness made him a true jack of all trades.

With determination and the help of YouTube, Jason could fix or build almost anything, often teaching his sons along the way.

Jason formed friendships across all walks of life and treated everyone with equal kindness and respect.

He had a heart for the less fortunate and always supported the underdog. His humility and compassion live on through the sons he raised and the example he set.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 20 years, Alana Huff; sons Colby Huff and Carter Huff; parents Jerry and Onngaleah Huff; sister Dawn (Joel) Weatherly; nieces Madison Truelove and Audrey Louise Weatherly; great-nephew Stetson Ryder; father-in-law Freddie (Jami) Truelove; brother-in-law Andy (Jill) Truelove; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Jason was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Rufus and Louise Huff; maternal grandparents J.D. Shiers, Bill and Audrey McGlothlin; and mother-in-law Judy Truelove.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 19, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Archibald Church of Christ in Rayville, Louisiana, with funeral services beginning at 2:00 p.m. Travis Arrant will officiate, and burial will follow at Faith Memorial Cemetery in Delhi, Louisiana, under the direction of Brown-Holley Funeral Home.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the ICU nursing staff at Glenwood Regional Medical Center and University Medical Center for the compassionate care Jason received.

Their kindness and dedication will never be forgotten.
