Born and raised in Hamburg, New York, Michael built a successful career that touched countless lives in the sport.

Michael came on board with Racing America back in July 2026, starting out as president of the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association, often called SVRA.

Then, by January 2026, he moved up to become Chief Operating Officer, taking charge of the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli, along with overseeing all the racing operations there.

Before that chapter, Michael had dedicated nearly three decades to NASCAR. His most notable years were spent as president of Watkins Glen International, a position he held for fifteen years from 2009 until 2026.

During that time, he guided the track through major improvements, including a big repaving project in 2015 that cost millions and helped keep the facility in top shape.

He also served as president of Americrown, handling the Levy food service contracts for a dozen NASCAR-owned tracks.

Even as overall attendance at NASCAR events dipped in some places over those years, Watkins Glen stayed strong under his leadership, drawing around 100,000 fans each weekend and becoming a real staple for racing enthusiasts in the region.

Watkins Glen International put out its own statement expressing sadness over losing its former president, who had led the place for so long.

“Watkins Glen International is saddened by the passing of former President Michael Printup, who led the facility for 15 years.
During his tenure, Michael played a key role in the continued growth and success of Watkins Glen International.”

A memorial service has been planned for Wednesday, January 7, 2026, running from 2 to 4 in the afternoon at James A. Dyal Funeral Home on 303 South Main Street in Summerville, South Carolina.

During this challenging time, we pray for the strength of Michael’s wife, kids, grandkids, colleagues, friends, and extended family.

Rest In Heavenly Peace, Michael Printup!
