Shanoyd Whyte, a 25-year-old former defensive lineman, was arrested by Lauderdale Lakes police on November 14, 2026, and charged with premeditated first-degree murder with a firearm, causing shockwaves in South Florida and beyond.

He is accused of fatally shooting his 21-year-old girlfriend, popular TikTok influencer and hairstylist known online as “Girlalala,” real name Maurice Jaden Harrison, in her apartment after a heated domestic dispute.

Whyte, a 6’2″, 245-pound Black man from Fort Lauderdale, remains held in Broward County Main Jail with no bail.

The case has quickly gained attention not just for its violence, but because of the couple’s troubled relationship, which Girlalala had openly documented on social media.

Maurice Jaden Harrison, better known as Girlalala or simply Lala, was a beloved figure in the beauty and fashion community.

With over 40.7K followers on Instagram, 800+ on TikTok, and 4.3K subscribers on YouTube, she built a loyal audience through her authentic makeup tutorials, wig reviews, and bold personality.

Friends and fans described her as vibrant, kind, and full of life. A GoFundMe set up for her family has already raised more than $19,000 in just days, with tributes pouring in from across the country.

But behind the glamour, Lala had been showing troubling signs. In several now-deleted videos and posts, she revealed disturbing incidents involving Whyte.

She claimed he had snatched off her wigs during arguments, bitten her, and left visible bruises on her face. These public disclosures painted a picture of escalating abuse that many now believe ended in tragedy.

Shanoyd Whyte was once a standout athlete with a promising future

A graduate of Dillard High School in Fort Lauderdale, he wore jersey #52 and played both defensive end and tackle.

His talent earned him recognition as a Miami Herald Elite South Florida Player in 2018.

He went on to play college football at Bethune-Cookman University, where he became a key part of the Panthers’ defense that same year.

Coaches and teammates remember him as a powerful presence on the line, strong, disciplined, and versatile enough to play on both sides of the ball.

After college, however, his path took a darker turn. Little is known about his life in recent years, but the arrest of Shanoyd Whyte now defines his public story.

According to police reports, officers responded to Lala’s apartment complex in Lauderdale Lakes late on November 14 after neighbors reported hearing gunshots and a woman screaming.

When they arrived, they found Maurice Jaden Harrison suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say Whyte fled but was located and arrested a short time later. A firearm was recovered, though details about the weapon and the exact sequence of events have not been released.

Detectives described the shooting as intentional and premeditated, pointing to the couple’s history of conflict.

The news has sparked widespread outrage online.

Hashtags like #JusticeForLala and #EndDomesticViolence are trending as fans demand accountability.

Many are calling the case a tragic example of how abuse can escalate when warning signs are ignored.

She told us,” one follower commented on Instagram. “She showed the bruises. She asked for help in her own way. And now she’s gone.”

Domestic violence advocates say Lala’s story is all too familiar. “Influencers often feel pressure to keep up a perfect image,” said a spokesperson for a local women’s shelter. “But Lala was brave enough to speak out. We failed her.

As of November 17, 2026, Shanoyd Whyte has not entered a plea. His first court appearance is scheduled for later this week.

Prosecutors are expected to seek the maximum penalty if convicted—life in prison without parole, or possibly the death penalty, given the premeditation charge and use of a firearm.

The Broward State Attorney’s Office has declined to comment beyond confirming the charges. Whyte’s family has also remained silent.

The arrest of Shanoyd Whyte highlights that even those who seem joyful on social media can be struggling, as Lala’s tragic death brought people together in grief and support.

Rest in peace, Lala. Your light won’t be forgotten.
