Former Davison Girls Basketball Coach Craig Hitchcock Passes Away at 39, Leaving Wife Becca and Three Children Heartbroken

A former Davison girls basketball coach, Craig Hitchcock, passed away at the age of 39, leaving behind his wife of 13 years and three children.

During his 39 years of life, Craig was both a player and a coach, dedicating himself to sports and mentoring young athletes throughout his career.

He played college baseball at Albion College from 2005 to 2009, where he played centerfield and was involved with the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.

After college, Craig moved into coaching and mentoring, focusing mainly on youth and high school athletics.

He served as the girls’ varsity basketball coach at Davison High School from 2012 to 2026, where he was respected for his leadership, discipline, and care for his players.

Davison, Michigan Community Mourns the Loss of Beloved Coach Craig Hitchcock, aka “Mr. Davison”

Born on October 13, 1986, Craig Joseph Hitchcock passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 19, 2026.

While living his 39 years, he not only became an outstanding coach, but he was also a loving husband to Becca and a caring father to their three children, Calvin, Benny, and Andie.

Craig Hitchcock’s death has brought grief not only to his family but also to the entire community, especially the Davison girls basketball team, which he coached for nearly a decade.

Following his passing, the basketball team shared a heartfelt post on Facebook, honoring Craig’s life and legacy.

Coach Craig was an important part of our athletic family and made a lasting impact on countless student-athletes through dedication, leadership, and care for others. Coach Craig coached from 2012-2026, earning two District Championships and sent our 2019-2026 team to the Regional Final game before COVID canceled the season. Beyond wins and losses, Coach Craig was known for his passionate competitiveness and his loyalty to his teams and players and the Davison Community, leaving a legacy that will continue to be felt throughout our program and community. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Coach Craig’s family— Becca, Calvin, Benny and Andie— his friends, former players, and colleagues during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with all who were fortunate enough to have known him. Coach Craig Hitchcock will always be remembered as part of our Davison Athletics family.

In addition to the basketball team, Craig’s beloved wife, Becca, also shared a heartfelt post on Facebook, expressing her grief, saying;

“And I will take, you in my arms And hold you right where you belong ‘Til the day my life is through, this I promise you” 10/13/86 – 12/19/25

While everyone who knew Craig or was impacted by his life expresses their sympathy and sorrow to the Hitchcock family via social media, the visitation has been announced for a celebration of life.

The Hitchcock family will welcome guests at Davison High School Gym, 1250 N. Oak Road, Davison, MI 48423, on Saturday, December 27, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Additionally, those who wish to honor Craig’s memory can contribute to his children’s education.

While the Hitchcock family goes through this difficult time, we also express our heartfelt condolences and prayers to them and everyone who knew Craig.
