Former high school baseball player from Austin, Indiana, Kevin Deaton has died at the age of 46, leaving his family and friends in deep mourning.

Austin, Indiana, Community Mourns the Unexpected Death of Kevin Deaton!

Born on March 19, 1979, in Scottsburg, Indiana, to parents Ann McIntosh Roberts and James Deaton, Kevin lived 46 years filled with laughter and joy.

Kevin passed away unexpectedly on January 5, 2026, leaving behind the charm, joy, and happiness he shared with everyone around him.

Friends and family described Kevin as having playful mannerisms and a joyous laughter, someone who could always make a sad person happy.

Following his passing, not just his family but many of his co-workers and friends are in deep grief, sharing their sorrow through posts.

One of his dear friends, in a Facebook post, expressed their sorrow and memories with Kevin, saying;

He had a huge heart and a rowdy soul. There was never a dull moment if he was around, if there was no entertainment,he would become the entertainment. We got our first real jobs together while still in high school, we shared our first apartment at 19, we were roommates for several years at multiple locations until I was probably 25…. Nikki Money-Howard not only took me on as a full time responsibility but also Big Kev. Kevin was afraid of heights, and not a big fan of tight spaces but I got him on a plane and he flew with me anyway, only once. He was always down for the ride anytime….. no matter what. Whatever you were doing he made it a little better with his commentary and his constant jokes about the current scenario. Chris Farley was his idol and he fit that role very well. Always a laugh, and always a friend….. no matter what.

I’ll never forget the the party ball which he mixed his own concoction and carried around filling cups for the ladies at party’s…. I will never forget the time he chased a beer box around the floor like a dog….. I will never forget when he dove of my dads porch and crushed a folding metal chair because they done it on tv…. I’ll forever miss him pulling his middle finger out of his pocket cuz he thinks I need one, sometimes 2…… he wasn’t for everybody but he was for me,and always there. Rest easy (aka)Big Papa Lump, (aka) ChiefBootKnocka ,but always known as Big Kev

While Kevin may have left the world early, he will remain in the hearts of his friends, family, and everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his loving mother, Ann McIntosh Roberts, his brothers, Charles, Paul, and Jay Roberts.

Likewise, his legacy continues through his adoring nieces, Hannah (Zack) Pranger, Taylor Deaton, and Haley Roberts, as well as his nephews, Dalton Deaton and Chase Roberts.

Now that the family is taking time to process the loss, they have also announced the visitation for the public, which will take place on January 12, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

The visitation will be followed by a funeral service at 7:00 PM. Both events will be held at the Christensen-Hoagland Family Funeral Home, located at 80 N 1st Street, Scottsburg, Indiana.

While the family processes their loss, we would like to express our heartfelt condolences to the Deaton family, friends, and everyone who knew him.

Rest in Peace, Beautiful Soul!
