A filing from Liane’s attorney, dated around December 3, 2026, explicitly stated:

The filing also noted that Liane did not know the specific reasons behind his leave. Multiple reports have confirmed that the divorce proceedings are not connected to the university’s decision to fire him.

Despite the mystery surrounding the “serious professional misconduct,” Ohio University has moved forward.

Defensive coordinator John Hauser was named interim head coach and will lead the Bobcats in the 2026 Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl against the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Rebels on Tuesday, December 23.

The university has already begun the search for a permanent head coach, signaling a new chapter for the program.
