In Kingsburg, California, the community mourns 19-year-old Mattix Salmon, a talented semi-professional race car driver who tragically died in an accident on December 22, 2026.
As friends, family, and fans mourn the young talent, attention has turned to those closest to him, including his girlfriend, Ryan Fuller, who is quietly grieving the loss of her beloved partner.
The couple kept their relationship mostly private.
However, they shared small hints on social media that showed their young love while managing busy and ambitious lives.
Mattix Salmon was more than just a name in local racing circles; he was a force on the track, known for his skill and determination in micro-sprint racing.
Born and raised in Kingsburg, Fresno County, Salmon had been making waves in the semi-professional scene, competing in events like those at Delta Speedway in Stockton.
Just months before his untimely death, on August 17, 2026, he charged from eighth place to claim victory in a thrilling 30-lap Non-Wing feature during Round Seven at Delta Speedway, showcasing the kind of talent that had many believing he was destined for bigger stages.
Earlier in the year, on June 14, he triumphed in the Non-Wing Outlaw class at another event, earning congratulations from the racing community and even a special nod for his father, Matt Salmon, on Father’s Day.
His parents, Matt and Raio Salmon, were pillars of support in his racing journey, often seen cheering him on from the stands.
The young driver’s passion for speed was evident in his Instagram bio, where he proudly declared himself a “semi-professional race car driver.“
The fatal crash occurred just after 6:30 p.m. on Manning Avenue, east of Riverside Avenue in Fresno County.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Salmon was driving westbound in his Chevrolet Silverado when an eastbound semi-truck, driven by Marlon Tavarez of San Joaquin, veered into the oncoming lane and sideswiped him.
The impact sent Salmon’s vehicle off the roadway, where it flipped multiple times before landing on its roof. Tragically, Salmon succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Tavarez remained unharmed and cooperated fully with investigators, who have ruled out drugs and alcohol as factors in the incident.
The accident has left a void in the racing world and beyond, with tributes pouring in for the teen who had so much potential.
Amid the grief, Salmon’s girlfriend, Ryan Fuller, is also mourning the man she loved.
The couple’s relationship was understated, they avoided public appearances together and didn’t share joint posts on social media, but their affection was clear in their Instagram bios, where they tagged each other’s accounts accompanied by heart emojis.
Salmon’s handle, @5bofa, linked to Fuller’s @_ryanfuller24 with a loving touch, a quiet nod to their bond.
Before Fuller, Salmon had dated Jessi Alves, a jockey, though details of that relationship remain private.
Ryan Fuller, born on February 13, 2006, in Kingston, California, to parents Kristen and Bryan Fuller, grew up in a supportive family alongside her sibling Hayden.
She attended Vista Oaks Charter School before heading to the University of Alabama, where she’s majoring in Business Management.
But it’s on the gymnastics mat where Fuller truly shines.
As a standout all-rounder for the Alabama Crimson Tide, she’s already etched her name in the program’s history during her freshman year in 2026.
Fuller earned second-team All-American honors at the NCAA Championships for uneven bars and was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team for the same event.
Her consistent performances, including a standout 9.925 on bars at the semifinals, helped propel the team forward.
Teammates like Paityn Walker, a lifelong friend from their childhood gymnastics days, have been by her side as she balances academics, athletics, and now, profound personal loss.
Despite the public nature of the tragedy, Fuller has not made any statements about her boyfriend’s death, choosing instead to grieve privately.
As the University of Alabama gymnastics community rallies around her, and Salmon’s family, parents Matt and Raio, navigate their sorrow, the story serves as a somber reminder of life’s fragility.
Mattix Salmon’s legacy as a dedicated racer and loving partner will endure, even as those who knew him best find ways to honor his memory.
In a world of high speeds and high stakes, it’s the quiet moments of connection that leave the deepest impact.
