Falmouth Girls’ Varsity Basketball Coach Robert (Bob) Louis Buscher’s Death Leaves His Wife, Lynne, And Family Mourning

Robert (Bob) Louis Buscher of Falmouth, a cherished 7th-grade math teacher at Lawrence School and Falmouth Girls’ Varsity Basketball coach for three decades, passed away on November 21, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 62.

Born to Elizabeth (Carbine) and Louis Buscher in Farmingdale, NY, Bob grew up in the small town of Willow, NY, in the Catskill Mountains.

He spent his childhood exploring the woods and mountains he loved, developing a lifelong passion for the outdoors.

Bob attended Onteora High School, where he captained the basketball, football, and baseball teams, graduating in 1981.

He went on to Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY, earning a degree in engineering before discovering his true calling in education and coaching.

Bob moved to Falmouth in 1989 and dedicated 33 years to teaching 7th-grade math at Lawrence School.

He cared deeply for his students, recognizing their individual strengths and guiding them toward their full potential.

Simultaneously, he led the Falmouth Girls’ Basketball program for 30 years, mentoring generations of student-athletes both on and off the court.

Bob also coached freshman football at the high school and treasured the years coaching his daughters’ travel basketball teams.

His career highlights included his recent induction into the Lawrence/Falmouth High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Known for his kindness, wit, and unwavering support, Bob built meaningful relationships with students, players, and colleagues. Many viewed him not just as a coach or teacher, but as a mentor and father figure. His dedication and compassion made him a pillar of the Falmouth community.

Bob loved the outdoors, especially the woods near Goodwill Park and Beebe Woods, as well as his hometown of Willow, NY.

He delighted in spotting wildlife, including bald eagles, red-tailed hawks, osprey, and deer, and was rarely without his binoculars.

An animal lover, he also enjoyed trips across the Western United States to observe wildlife in their natural habitats.

After retiring from teaching, Bob returned to hands-on work, finding joy in mowing lawns and landscaping in Falmouth.

A lifelong sports fan, Bob enthusiastically followed fantasy football and baseball and could often be found cheering on Falmouth volleyball, soccer, and football games.

Above all, Bob cherished his family. He shared a deep bond with his wife, Lynne, a longtime Falmouth teacher, and was a devoted father to his daughters, Sara and Hannah.

He treasured moments playing Catan, watching game shows and horror movies, and simply spending time together at home.

Bob is survived by his wife and daughters, his sister Susan Oswalt of Jacksonville Beach, FL, his brothers-in-law Paul Margulis of Ohio and Dan Margulis of North Carolina, his sister-in-law Gail Margulis of New York, and his nephews Thomas Oswalt of Singapore, Chad Oswalt of Kentucky, David Oswalt of Texas, Alexander and Corey Margulis of North Carolina, and Griffin Margulis of Ohio.

Visiting hours will be held Saturday, November 29, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home, 475 Main St., Falmouth, followed by a memorial service at 12 p.m.

Bob Buscher’s life leaves an enduring legacy of mentorship, dedication, and love, both in the classroom and in the hearts of all who knew him.
