The Columbus, Mississippi, community is heartbroken following the sudden passing of 23-year-old Caleb Cistrunk.
He was a dedicated U.S. Army veteran, a respected firefighter in Starkville, a former talented Athlete-student, and someone known for his infectious smile and kind heart.
Caleb touched many lives through his service, his athletic achievements, and his warm personality.

There, he excelled as a varsity athlete, playing soccer and football as a wide receiver.
After high school, he went on to study at Mississippi State University and was a resident in the MSU area.
Caleb’s commitment to serving others shone brightly.
He joined the U.S. Army, rising to the rank of Sergeant and earning respect as a combat-trained soldier.
After his military service, he became a firefighter, proudly protecting his community.
His cousin Demario Cistrunk highlighted his cousin’s dedication in a heartfelt post, calling him “one hell of a firefighter who served this country and a community well.“
Beyond his professional life, Caleb was deeply involved in the local arts scene. He was a longtime student at The WhereHouse, a beloved dance studio in Columbus.
The studio shared a touching tribute, describing him as a “huggable, kind, silly, charming, smiling, dancing soldier” who always entered with a smile and brought warmth to everyone.
They noted his roots with the studio from its early days and offered a way for the dance family to support his loved ones.

Friends and family expressed their sorrow online.
Derek N Kim Edward expressed disbelief, remembering how Caleb quickly felt like family and asking for prayers for his wife, Annabelle Grace Cistrunk, and the rest of his loved ones.
Tony Hannah shared fond memories of their hugs and Caleb’s constant smile, calling him an “American hero” whom he looked up to despite the age difference.
He prayed for strength for the family during this difficult time.
Rayshaun Stalling, a fellow soldier, recalled shared experiences in the Army, laughing over old videos, and quoted Caleb’s motivational words: “Keep God in ya life, FN.” He promised it wouldn’t be the same without him.
Kristian Dior called Caleb the “big brother I never had,” thanking him for his support, long talks, and heroic presence in her life.
She sent condolences to his family for losing their “beautiful angel.”
One family member mentioned doubts about the reported circumstances of his passing, suggesting it involved a firearm accident, but emphasized seeking justice while honoring his memory.
Caleb’s vibrant spirit left a lasting impact on everyone he met, from the dance floor to the battlefield and the fire station.
The community continues to rally around his family, including his mother, Kenya, wife Annabelle, and extended loved ones.
He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of kindness, service, and joy lives on.
