David Richard Bailey, a proud Clemson Tiger, passed away at 80, surrounded by the love of his family, on Thursday evening, November 13, 2026, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
He was a devoted supporter who faithfully followed Clemson football and enjoyed staying up-to-date with all things related to the university.
David Richard Bailey was an alumnus of Clemson University, where he earned a degree in Chemistry and remained a proud Clemson Tiger for life.
He was a devoted fan who faithfully followed Clemson football and enjoyed staying connected to his alma mater.
After graduation, he served his country and defended the freedoms he cherished with courage. He was with the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Professionally, David was known for his dedication, retiring from Abbott Laboratories in Rocky Mount after an impressive 28 years of service.
His faith was a cornerstone of his life.
He was a longtime, faithful member of Englewood Assembly of God in Rocky Mount and, upon moving to Goldsboro, joined the congregation of Unity Fellowship Church in Rosewood.
David Richard Bailey’s Life of Faith and Generosity
David Richard Bailey, the son of Joe Richard Bailey and Kathleen Taylor Bailey, was born on June 18, 1945, in Anderson, South Carolina.
Sadly, he passed away at 80, surrounded by his family at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
David was raised in a Christian home, and the values of faith, hard work, and generosity were the cornerstones of his life.
He discovered a love for gardening from a young age, which blossomed into a lifelong passion. He found immense joy in tending his garden and generously sharing its bounty with friends and family.
David was a man of diverse interests and quiet talents. He had a deep appreciation for music, particularly Motown, and curated an impressive collection of vinyl records.
His faith was central to his life, and he was a devoted student of the Bible, continually seeking to deepen his understanding of God’s Word.
He also enjoyed the simple pleasure of finding just the correct item on Amazon and eagerly awaiting its arrival.
Moreover, David found satisfaction in woodworking.
Over the years, he crafted meaningful pieces for his family’s home, including a house for his daughter’s cats and a small outdoor building for the tractor.
The Bailey family will hold a private service to honor and celebrate David’s life at a later date in his hometown of Anderson, South Carolina.
David is survived by his daughter, Lauren Cotter, and her husband, Al; his grandchildren, Christopher Bailey Weeks, Colin Wade Weeks, Dallas Justin Cotter, and Victoria King Panosso and husband, Jacob; and his great-grandson, Oliver Panosso.
Similarly, he is survived by a very dear friend and companion, Becky Umstead.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to the Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
David’s legacy of faith, love, and quiet generosity will be cherished by all who knew him.
