The sudden passing of Laila Gadson has left her family, friends, and the racing community heartbroken.
Rickey Gadson shared the devastating news of his daughter’s death, describing it as the loss of his last baby.
Laila, only 18 and in her second year of college, succumbed to a sudden illness, leaving behind a legacy of joy, intelligence, and radiant spirit.
Chris Jones, a longtime family friend, recalled spending time with Laila just days before her death, riding scooters in Valdosta and enjoying the racetrack where she grew up alongside his daughter.
“Life is so short and unpredictable,” he said, reflecting on the fleeting moments he shared with her.

The outpouring of grief from friends and the community has been immense.
Tracy Robinson remembered Laila’s bright smile and the light she brought to every room.
“You truly will be missed,” Robinson wrote, extending heartfelt condolences to Rickey Gadson, Laila’s mother, and the rest of the family.
Rickey Gadson expressed his anguish openly, asking for space to grieve.
“It’s gonna be bad for me over the coming months, years, decades,” he said.
He also shared details about the Islamic funeral arrangements, requesting that anyone wishing to support Laila’s mother consider contributing to his daughter’s Cash App account rather than sending flowers, as her body must be buried within three days according to her faith.
Messages of sympathy poured in from across the drag racing community and social networks.
Divazinc Meke, Jarrvon Hall, and organizations like Northeast Drag Bike expressed sorrow and urged prayers for the Gadson family during this tragic time.
Friends, family, and the wider community continue to mourn her loss, celebrating the bright, joyful spirit that touched everyone who knew her.
