Cherokee County Tragedy: An 11-Year-Old Asthma Patient, Active in Youth Football, Dies After a Medical Emergency While in Another’s Care

A community is mourning the tragic death of 11-year-old Kali Henderson, a young girl with a history of severe asthma and a passion for youth football.
Kali reportedly suffered a medical emergency while in the care of her father’s partner and, according to her mother, was not taken to the hospital or given CPR during the crisis.
In a detailed Facebook post, family friend Marsai Sade Bell shared the heartbreaking account of Kali’s final moments.
Bell described the anguish of Kali’s mother, Heather Ella Rise, who learned of her daughter’s emergency only after it was too late. Bell wrote,
“Imagine getting a call that your 11-year-old daughter had an asthma attack, and the person responsible for her did not take her to the hospital when symptoms began and did not administer CPR,” “This wasn’t new. Not to her, not to her father.”

She had even petitioned the courts to alter the custody arrangement to protect her daughter’s health, but the judge declined to make changes.
According to Bell, despite these warnings, Kali was placed in active sports like football by her father, fully aware of her medical condition.
Bell’s post also highlighted the emotional toll on the family. Upon rushing to the hospital, Heather reportedly discovered her daughter had already passed.
She described the encounter as deeply painful: her ex-husband and his partner allegedly walked past Heather without acknowledgement while a doctor explained what had happened. Bell added,
“Some stories are so heavy they don’t sound real until you’re living them,” “Some pain has no words, only truth. This is not a fictional novel, not a movie plot twist—this is real life for Heather Ella Rise and her family.”
Marsai Sade BellThe Facebook post prompted an outpouring of grief and support from the community. Leshaun Minor noted that the case is under investigation.
