At Smithville High School, cheerleader Mackenzie Martinez faced a deeply troubling incident that underscored ongoing racial injustice.

Despite her strong academic record and years of cheerleading experience, Mackenzie was informed during the school’s cheer banquet that she would be restricted to junior varsity and only permitted to participate in home games.

While her peers received plaques, trophies, and flowers in recognition of their achievements, Mackenzie was singled out with only a flower.

This decision and action highlighted the discriminatory treatment she has endured.

This exclusion not only diminished her accomplishments but also strengthened the racial bias she has been subjected to throughout her time in the district.

Cheer Banquet Outcome Leaves Mackenzie Martinez Distraught Amid Unfair Treatment!

Pamela Lehman, compelled by the events of the banquet, took to Facebook to share her perspective.

She explained that Mackenzie had long faced derogatory comments, threats of deportation, and racist epithets, yet had chosen to ignore them and asked Pamela not to intervene.

However, Pamela emphasized that the cheer banquet’s outcome was too unjust to remain silent.

In her post, she described Mackenzie’s restriction to junior varsity as unfair and discriminatory.

Further, she contrasted it with the opportunities given to her peers who shared similar academic success.

Pamela concluded her post by calling for justice, urging anyone with legal resources to reach out, saying:

If anyone knows of lawyers etc please inbox me. Smithville sys ther a Christian school who supports prayer etc but this treatment isn’t of God cause he doesn’t discriminate over color. There will be justice

The post quickly drew responses from community members who shared their points of view.

One commenter expressed outrage, saying,

“Disgusting behavior on behalf of the school. I hope you get answers.”

Another shared their advice, saying,

“Well you can go up the chain principal and up. Or start at top. Superintendent Personally. With racial stuff If you think it’s personnel doing it. I’d prob start at top. If just students then I’d start w principal.”

Others voiced disappointment in the school’s lack of diversity, with one stating,

“So Sorry Pam but probably would have much better luck in Wooster school district. And that hurts my heart because my daughter graduated from smithville but they are to closed minded to diversity. The way things are in the world today. Your daughter is beautiful im sure inside and out.”

Despite her academic excellence and dedication to cheerleading, she was denied equal recognition and opportunities.
