A mother named Rebecca Brooks took to her Facebook to share a heartbreaking story about her daughter and how hard it has been for her to find a teaching job right here in our area.

She penned a lengthy post pouring her heart out about everything her family has gone through.

Rebecca explained that her daughter has worked hard and earned her degree in education. She is even going back to college to get more qualifications so she can teach even better.

Her daughter has applied to schools in Bell County and the Middlesboro school system, and she has reached out to places farther away too. However, every time she gets turned down.

Rebecca believes the reason behind her daughter getting turned is tied to what happened when she was still a student in those same school systems where she was bullied badly.

Let alone kids picked on her, even some teachers, and especially coaches, made her life miserable.

She revealed that one coach told her daughter she was too fat to play sports. She wrote:

I will never ever forget the coaches you know she’s too fat to play

As parents, Rebecca and her husband, Scott, urged other parents to stand up and speak for their child because no one else would.

I would be my children’s voices again if I had to,” Rebecca strongly said.

Now, years later, Rebecca thinks that is exactly why schools will not hire her daughter. She feels the people in charge remember how the parents spoke up, and they are holding it against the daughter by not giving her a chance to teach.

Rebecca revealed that her daughter chose to become a teacher because of one teacher who showed her real kindness and compassion when she needed it most. That one good example made her want to help other kids the same way.

But now, even that same teacher who was so caring back then will not look at her daughter or help her get a job.

She thinks the local schools are missing out on a wonderful teacher because they let old grudges get in the way of hiring someone who has all the qualifications.

Well then that’s shame on them because they are really missing out on someone,” she added.

She also mentioned how hurtful it has been to hear lies about what kind of parents they are. Some people spread stories calling them bad parents, but later, other coaches and teachers from different schools told them the Brooks family was actually one of the best around.

In her post, Rebecca made it clear that she doesn’t regret being her daughter’s voice when she was too young to fight back for themselves. But she worries that her daughter might feel like her parents made things harder for her by doing that.

She hopes her daughter is not mad at them forever, and she thinks maybe she is not, but the whole situation just feels wrong.

I apologize to her if I made life hard for her because me and her dad spoke up for her. I hope that she don’t stay mad at us forever, but I don’t think she’s mad at us.

Rebecca ended by saying it is a real shame that bullying doesn’t only come from kids, but also from adults who are supposed to encourage children.
