A Brownsboro family’s Christmas celebration turned into a nightmare when 9-year-old Aaronwayne Dalton suffered severe burn injuries during a holiday trip to a family deer camp in West Texas.
The incident, which took place on December 26, 2026, sparked an outpouring of support from friends, neighbors, and the local community as the young boy began a long and challenging recovery.
According to family reports, Aaronwayne Dalton, who loves outdoor activities, was walking near the campfire when he became engulfed in flames.
In a dramatic act of courage and quick thinking, his parents, Andy and Whitney Dalton, immediately jumped on him to smother the fire with their own bodies, ultimately saving his life.
The heroic intervention prevented even more severe injuries, but Aaronwayne still required urgent medical attention.
He was airlifted by helicopter to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, where he was admitted to the Burn Intensive Care Unit.
Doctors expect his stay to be lengthy, and his recovery will be a demanding process involving multiple treatments, rehabilitation, and emotional support.
The ordeal has been difficult not only for Aaronwayne but also for his parents and sister, Aubrie Dalton, who are adjusting to the emotional and logistical challenges that come with such a serious injury.
Aaronwayne’s aunt, Meghan Glascock, launched a GoFundMe campaign to help offset the mounting expenses related to medical care, transportation, lodging, and time away from work.
In her statement, she emphasized that the Dalton family is hardworking and self-reliant, rarely asking for help. She wrote,
If you know the Daltons, you know they are incredibly hard working, self-reliant people who never ask for help so I am asking on their behalf. Please give any amount that feels right to help alleviate some of the financial burden on this sweet family so they can focus on helping Aaronwayne recover. Transportation, lodging, meals, and medical expenses are already adding up and time away from work will be needed.
Meghan GlascockThe Chandler Sports Associaton where Aaronwayne has played for several years, also shared a heartfelt message after sharing the official GoFundMe link. The organization wrote,
This is 1 of the Best and Sweetest families ❤️
Their son has played in CSA for years and his parents play in the Adult Co Ed Softball league
They would give anyone the shirt off their back in need so let’s all come together and help❤️
If you can’t donate then please pray ❤️
We know God can perform miracles❤️
Community response has been immediate and generous. One supporter, Larry-Tammy D. Cathey, commented that Creekside Sports would make a donation and offered to deliver a check in person.

The road ahead for Aaronwayne is uncertain. Burn recovery can be long and complex, requiring physical therapy, medical procedures, and emotional resilience.
His family remains committed to supporting him through each step.
Dalton’s aunt, Glascock, emphasized that donations to the GoFundMe campaign, titled “Support for Aaronwayne Dalton’s Recovery,” will go directly to Whitney and Andy Dalton to cover medical and living expenses.
While the holiday season has brought unimaginable challenges for the Daltons, the overwhelming support from their community has provided comfort and strength.
