Brandon Easley was tragically shot while walking near a convenience store in Indianapolis.

Brandon Easley’s mother retrieved the mail minutes after an interview with FOX about her son, who was shot to death early Sunday morning.

Among the letters was an envelope with a letter of acceptance from Ball State University, advising Brandon,

“You’re one step away from becoming a Ball State Cardinal.”

Easley, an 18-year-old senior at Kipp Indy Legacy High School, was set to graduate next spring and pursue college basketball.

He’s just been chasing that basketball dream since he was a kid,” said Brandy Easley.

“Brandon loved fast cars. He didn’t carry weapons. He didn’t have a background. He’s never been arrested as a juvenile. He was just an 18-year-old, trying to be a student, trying to make it, trying to be successful.”

Early Sunday morning, Brandon was walking across the parking lot of a convenience store and gas station at East Michigan Street and North Sherman Drive just before 2 a.m. when someone in a passing car opened fire, fatally wounding him.

Security video from inside the store captured the chaos, showing a gun being pulled out and fired, shattering the windows near the display of the night’s winning lottery numbers.
