Beloved Former Corinth Warrior Cheerleader Laura “Denise” McMillian Passes Away at 68

Corinth, Mississippi, a community mourns the loss of a beloved figure, Laura “Denise” McMillian, a beloved former Corinth Warrior cheerleader whose warmth and devotion touched countless lives.
Denise passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 30, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was 68 years old.
As the Corinth High School Alumni Association poignantly shared, “Once a Warrior… ALWAYS A WARRIOR.”
Born on November 16, 1957, in Jackson, Mississippi, to Lester and Jo Ann Rasberry, Denise was a stunning auburn-haired, brown-eyed child with an inquisitive mind and a heart overflowing with kindness.
Slightly shy in her early years, she blossomed into a compassionate soul who always put others first.
When her father’s job relocated the family to Corinth during her middle school years, Denise quickly embraced her new home.
She became deeply involved in First Baptist Church of Corinth, where her faith became the cornerstone of her life.
It was here that her warm personality and genuine care for people began to shine brightly.
(Source: Facebook) Denise’s high school years at Corinth High School were filled with joy and excitement. As a proud Corinth Warrior cheerleader, she lit up the sidelines with her enthusiasm, cheering on her team at games and dances.
She formed lifelong friendships during this time, a tight-knit group that remained close through the decades, sharing laughs, support, and memories that brought her endless happiness.
These bonds were a testament to Denise’s loyalty and the way she nurtured relationships like precious treasures.
After high school, Denise continued her cheerleading journey at Northeast Community College, where she earned the title of Most Beautiful and became a beloved Tiger Cheerleader.
It was during this chapter that she first caught the eye of her future husband, Bill McMillian, a handsome, dark-haired young man who would become her lifelong partner.
Though it took time for their romance to ignite, their connection was divinely ordained.
Denise went on to attend Mississippi State University, majoring in education with a focus on special education.
Her passion for teaching shone through, and she applied those lessons beautifully in raising her own children.
In a psychology class, she learned that letting kids eat dessert before dinner actually helped them make better food choices overall.
True to form, Denise turned this into a playful family tradition, always finding creative ways to make learning and life enjoyable.
Upon graduating, Denise dove into her teaching career at Biggersville High School, where she taught English to students just a few years her junior.
She thrived in the classroom, inspiring young minds with her enthusiasm and empathy. But her true calling soon became clear: starting a family. She knew exactly who she wanted by her side: Bill.
Bill and Laura (Source: Facebook)On August 8, 1980, they exchanged vows in a beautiful ceremony adorned with yellow flowers, Denise’s favourite colour.
Surrounded by family and friends, they promised to love each other forever, a vow they honoured every single day for 45 years.
Their family grew quickly and joyfully. First came William Brandon in February 1982, followed by Ginger Denise in March 1983, and then a wonderful surprise, Shelbi Elizabeth, in April 1991.
While raising their three children, Denise and Bill worked tirelessly, balancing careers, faith, and family.
Denise poured her heart into motherhood, watching anxiously at sports games, kissing away boo-boos, and whipping up soul-healing dumplings when life got tough.
She smocked Sunday dresses with love, baked messy-but-delicious cookie dough, and offered hugs that could calm any storm.
Her high-pitched sneeze became a family joke, impossible to hide during games of hide-and-seek.
Above all, Denise led by example, her Christian faith illuminating everything she did. Her prayers were prompt and powerful, her laugh heavenly and contagious.
As the children grew into adults, Denise and Bill cherished their empty-nest adventures. They escaped to their cosy cabin in Como, attended walking horse shows, and enjoyed each other’s company.
Though opposites in many ways, she polished his manners and grammar, while he taught her to ride horses and drive a tractor, they were united in what mattered most: their love for Jesus, their family, and each other.
Their bond was a rare and beautiful thing, sustained through trials and enriched in triumphs.
Denise was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Jo Ann Rasberry.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Bill McMillian; her children, Brandon McMillian, Ginger McMillian Buchanan, and Shelbi McMillian; her beloved grandchildren; and her sisters, Dianne Rasberry Barber and Donna Rasberry.
The family takes comfort in knowing Denise is now in the arms of her Heavenly Father.

Via FacebookA Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at McMillan Funeral Home in Corinth, with Bro. Tim Green officiating.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, January 3, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests donations to First Baptist Church of Corinth or a charity close to Denise’s heart.
Denise McMillian was more than a cheerleader, teacher, wife, mother, and grandmother; she was a beacon of light, reminding us all to live with kindness, faith, and joy.
Though her earthly journey has ended, her spirit dances on, cheering us forward.
