A wave of frustration is sweeping through Auburn, New York, after residents took to social media to sound the alarm about a pattern of troubling behavior at several local parks.
What started as one woman’s post calling out unruly kids at Clifford Park quickly turned into a community-wide conversation, with neighbors sharing similar stories from multiple locations across the city.
Auburn resident Amanda Daly sparked the discussion when she posted in the popular Facebook group “What’s going on in Auburn, N.Y.???????”, urging parents to take responsibility for their children’s conduct.
Whoever are the parents of the kids swearing at Clifford Park / Y field – PARENT YOUR KIDS. There’s young children around, if they can’t be respectful then you should be WITH them.
Saying racial slurs around others/in front of little kids is not appropriate.
Daly described a group of kids at Clifford Park, also known as the Y field, using profanity and shouting racial slurs in the presence of young children.
Her message was direct: if kids cannot behave in a public space, parents need to be present with them.
The post resonated almost immediately, drawing dozens of responses from residents who said they had witnessed similar behavior at other parks around town.
A Pattern Spreading Across Multiple Parks
The concerns were not limited to Clifford Park. Jt Tass shared that kids at Casey Park playground had also been using inappropriate language, adding that three boys uprooted a young tree and carried it around.
Kids at casey park playground have been pretty bad with their language and 3 boys took out a baby tree and carried it around proudly. So sad
Jt TassAlyssa Thomas described a particularly rowdy group of kids hanging around the tennis courts near her home, saying they climbed on the tennis nets and tried to break them while also attempting to start fires.
i do have to say there is a incredibly rude group of kids who hang on in the tennis courts who were freaking out over our fire pit 💀 they would sit on top of the nets in the tennis courts and try to break them, they were also trying to start fires in the tennis courts aswell
Alyssa ThomasAmy Thomas added that the same kids could be heard swearing and yelling loudly enough to be heard from inside nearby homes.
Amanda Daly the same kids were swearing and yelling …like we can hear them from inside our house.
Amy ThomasKaelee Redden confirmed that the problem is widespread, noting she had been saying the same things about children at other parks around town for some time.
i been saying the same things about some other children at other parks around town
Kaelee ReddenSeveral residents pointed to a deeper issue: the behavior of the children may be a direct reflection of what they see at home.
Lori Thurston summed up what many were thinking when she said she believed most kids pick up these habits from their parents.
Unfortunately, Think most get this bad trait from parents.
Lori ThurstonThat sentiment appeared to be confirmed when Daly revealed that a parent had reportedly driven by the park and attempted to get physically confrontational with someone at the scene, including a woman holding a baby.
Grace Sessler shared how she handles these moments with her own children.
This is when I loudly tell my daughters “I never want to hear you use that kind of verbiage. I am raising you to be respectful of others whether I’m there or not.”
Grace SesslerPolice were reportedly called to the scene by another bystander, though Daly was uncertain whether officers actually arrived.
Sue n Ellie noted that Daly was not alone in her experience, pointing out that another community member had posted about a similar incident on the same day.
Sadly , you’re not the only one that encountered this today. Someone else posted about it also.
Sue n EllieAs of now, no official statement has been made by local authorities regarding the park incidents.
