Atlanta rapper Yung LA, known for “Ain’t I,” has been incarcerated for the past three weeks in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
Leland Sanford Austin Jr. landed in Gwinnett County Jail on December 3, 2026, after authorities hit him with a felony probation violation charge.
It’s a sad turn for a guy who once lit up the charts and the streets of Atlanta with his music.
Born on March 26, 1986, in Atlanta, Yung LA grew up in the tough Zone 3 neighborhood of Thomasville Heights.
As a teen, he dreamed of hoops and the gridiron, shining as a varsity basketball and football player in high school.
But poor grades kept him from scholarships or college ball. That pushed him to pour his energy into music instead.
He started rapping at 13, freestyling at school lunches and backyard courts. By 15, life got rough, and he turned to selling drugs to get by.
Tragedy struck when three close friends were killed, leaving him with teardrop tattoos as permanent reminders of the pain.
Those losses lit a fire under him to chase music seriously, turning his street stories into songs that connected with the hood.
His big break came in 2007 when fellow Atlanta rapper Young Dro spotted his talent and brought him to T.I.’s Grand Hustle Records. Yung LA signed a deal and dropped his debut mixtape, Offset Shawty, in 2008.
That same year, his single “Ain’t I” exploded, hitting No. 47 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 7 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
Yung LA (Source: respect)The remix with T.I. and Young Dro went platinum, blending futuristic vibes with trap beats and putting Yung LA on the map.
He followed up with “Futuristic Love (Elroy)” featuring Ricco Barrino, which cracked the R&B charts at No. 55.
Mixtapes like Black Boy Swag, White Boy Tags with Young Dro kept the buzz alive, and he inked a joint deal with Interscope Records.
Fans still bump those tracks today, especially on TikTok, where “Ain’t I” gets new life in viral clips.
But the road to stardom wasn’t smooth. Label drama shelved his debut album, Futuristic Leland, and he parted ways with Grand Hustle and Interscope.
Beefs with artists like Alley Boy added fuel to the fire, though they’ve since patched things up.
Yung LA kept grinding with independent releases, collaborations, and a fearless style that helped shape modern Southern rap.
He built a loyal following, racking up over 190,000 Instagram followers under @yungla_, where he shares music snippets and personal glimpses.
Now, this latest arrest has the streets talking
According to police reports, Yung LA got nabbed after allegedly swiping a TV and his neighbor’s lawnmower.
Witnesses say he was pushing the mower down the block like it was just another day on a yard crew gig.
The petty theft triggered the probation violation, landing him back behind bars.
It’s been quiet on official updates since his booking, but the hip-hop community is buzzing with concern and frustration.
Duckedoff Media broke the news on their Facebook page with a mix of shade and sympathy:
“Yung LA back in the headlines again. Police say he was arrested after allegedly taking a TV and the neighbor’s lawnmower… then got caught pushing it like it was his shift at the yard service.
Via FacebookThe post showed that classic Atlanta blend of humor and heartache, reminding everyone how close talent and trouble can run in the rap game.
Former manager Olanza BabSavage Sanders aired his thoughts on December 7, painting a picture of missed potential.
He wrote -:
I set up so many shows for Yung la made the boy 6 figures in less than 5 months started back doing arenas features went crazy and he keeps crashing out. One thing you learn about management is that you can’t force someone to go across the finish line.
Even more you can’t control outcomes artist missing shows or being on time to shows.
Management of the money they make they blow it fast. Lost Yung la to habits, lost my brother youngbleed he passed away un expectedly but still the building will stand tall as I aim to bring GOG to the heights of solicit and cash money and beyond within the next 10 years.
God always has a plan just don’t stray away from the Path.
HitsOnFye Worldwide echoed that sentiment on Instagram, voicing worry from a business angle.
Yung L.A business affiliate voiced his public concern after Yung La was recently arrested. We believe he is currently still being held in the Gwinnett county Jail.
Seems like he caught a break in the music game again but with the same old habits and ways he has quietly sunken down to the bottom again.
Is is that hard for a rapper to stop drugging, get to shows on time and pay their teams correctly? What’s up with this? Smh
It’s a familiar story in hip-hop: raw talent clashing with personal demons. Yung LA’s highs—from platinum plaques to arena crowds- stand in stark contrast to these lows.
Fans hope this is rock bottom, a wake-up call to get back on track. As Sanders put it, you can’t control the outcome, but the path is there if he chooses it.
For now, the Zone 3 kid who once owned the mic sits in a cell, waiting for his next chapter. Will he rise again like “Ain’t I” did on those late-2000s playlists? Atlanta’s watching.
