Matthew J. Driscoll, a student-athlete from Arlington Catholic High School, passed away at the age of 15 on January 13, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He had shown extraordinary courage, strength, and grace throughout his journey.
The Arlington Catholic community remembers Matthew J. Driscoll, a member of the Class of 2029.
He was a Varsity Soccer player and took the position of a defender in the field. He contributed his skills and dedication to the sports, wearing jersey number 34 for the team.
His time in Arlington Catholic was far too short, but his classmates, teachers, and teammates remember him as a part of the school family.
His presence on the soccer field and in the halls is part of the school’s story.

Matthew J. Driscoll’s Family Mourns the Tragic Loss
Matthew J. Driscoll, a beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 13, 2026.
He lost his life at 15, after a valiant and graceful battle with cancer.

He faced his illness with extraordinary strength, a resilient spirit, and a grace that profoundly inspired all who knew him.
His greatest joy was his family, and he was a loving big brother to Sarah and Rory, whose admiration for him knew no bounds.
He was the cherished grandson of Joseph Lawlor and the late Susan Lawlor, and the late John and Mary Driscoll of North Andover.
Similarly, he was the loving nephew. He is survived by his aunts and uncles: Ryan Lawlor and his wife, Allison; Alison Russell and her husband, Kevin; Beth Blanchard and her husband, Dave; Dan Driscoll and his wife, Rina; Brian Driscoll and his wife, Jackie; Ken Driscoll and his wife, Cathy; and the late John Driscoll and his wife, Ellen.
Matthew also leaves his faithful canine companion, Shamrock, and a vast, heartbroken family of cousins, friends, and teammates who will forever cherish his memory.
The Driscoll family wished to express their deepest, most heartfelt gratitude for the incredible outpouring of support from their community during this unimaginable time.
They are profoundly thankful for every message, gesture, and act of generosity.
The kindness of friends, neighbors, and even strangers has been a sustaining comfort. It provided the strength to navigate this painful chapter with love and dignity.

Eve and Chad are so grateful for all of the exceptional care that Matthew received at the Boston hospitals. Dana Farber, Boston Children’s Hospital, and Brigham and Women’s have all been wonderful to them.

The Driscoll family will celebrate a Funeral Mass at St. Raphael Church, 512 High St., Medford, on Thursday, January 22, at 10 a.m.
His burial will follow at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge.
The family invited friends and relatives to pay their respects during calling hours on Wednesday, January 21, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn.
Instead of flowers, they request that donations be made in Matthew’s memory to the Jimmy Fund at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. They also encourage considering donating blood or platelets, a life-saving gift that offers critical support to patients like Matthew.
His light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
