Amy Becker recently shared a post on Facebook about a fight that happened weeks ago, claiming a young adult basketball player assaulted a minor shortly before leaving for college.
In her post, Becker alleged that the incident involved Eriq, described as an 18-year-old athlete preparing to play college basketball.
She claimed that video footage shows Eriq approaching a younger teen after a larger group confrontation had already stopped and then delivering a punch to the side of the minor’s head.
Becker further alleged that several others were present and recording at the time.
According to Becker, the matter did not result in lasting legal consequences.
She claimed that Eriq’s family paid $500 to resolve the situation, which she believes allowed him to avoid accountability as he prepares to begin his college career.
Becker expressed frustration with law enforcement and argued that the outcome sends the wrong message about responsibility and consequences.
Becker also alleged that racial slurs appeared in related videos and said additional fights involving some of the same individuals occurred later, suggesting that no lessons were learned.
She repeatedly emphasized that the incident was recorded and, in her view, should not be ignored simply because time has passed or because the athlete plans to play college sports.
The post sparked a heated debate in the comments section.
One asked whether the incident was recent or from weeks earlier, adding that she hoped it was a one-time situation and that the behavior would stop.
Becker replied that the fight happened weeks ago, but claimed the lack of consequences motivated her to speak out.
Others strongly opposed Becker’s decision to reshare the incident.
One argued that the altercation involved kids, happened weeks earlier, and did not warrant continued public attention.
He suggested that posting about it online would not solve anything and warned that public shaming could do more harm than good.
Becker pushed back, repeatedly stating that Eriq is an adult and that attacking a minor remains serious regardless of age.
She maintained that college coaches and athletic programs should care about an athlete’s behavior off the court, not just performance on it.
Another commenter dismissed Becker’s claims and mocked the situation, prompting Becker to respond that no one involved demonstrated the ability to fight one-on-one and that both youths walked away afterward.
As the teen athlete prepares for his next chapter, the online dispute highlights a broader debate about accountability, youth violence, and the long-term impact of sharing alleged misconduct on social media.
Supporters of Becker argue that behavior should follow an athlete into adulthood, especially when college programs emphasize character.
Critics counter that reopening weeks-old incidents risks unfairly damaging a young person’s future.
The video and claims continue to circulate online, keeping the controversy alive as the athlete prepares for his college basketball career.
