Deasia Thompson alleges that her 10-year-old son, Noah, was physically assaulted by a Shelby High School senior player after the Lincolnton vs. Shelby football game on October 10, 2026.

The senior player couldn’t handle his emotions and knocked Noah unconscious with a football helmet.

High school sports are often celebrated as the epitome of teamwork, discipline, and school pride.

However, beneath this positive surface, a destructive and sometimes violent culture of hazing persists, often led by older players against younger teammates.

Instead of mentorship, there is abuse and assault.

Serious allegations from multiple schools illustrate that when senior athletes cannot control their emotions or impulses, the results can be traumatic and life-altering for the victims.

The tradition of “boys being boys” or “tough coaching” is an unacceptable excuse for abusive, traumatic behavior.

Mother Speaks Out After a High School Football Player Assaulted Her 10-Year-Old Son

Deasia Thompson has publicly shared her story, alleging that a senior high school football player assaulted her 10-year-old son, and the school’s response has been inadequate.

She alleges that after the Lincolnton vs. Shelby high school football game on October 10, 2026, her son, Noah, was physically attacked by a Shelby High School senior player.

Thompson stated that her son was knocked unconscious with a football helmet and sustained a concussion, a broken front tooth, a busted lip, a black eye, and a permanent scar.

She expressed profound frustration with the subsequent handling of the case. Though criminal charges were filed, she alleges that the school has done nothing.

She further claims the athlete faced absolutely no repercussions and continued to play in all games following the incident.

According to Thompson, the institutional response was dismissive from the start. She states that a Shelby High School football coach was notified the night of the incident, but didn’t care.

She followed up with the athletic director, head coach, and superintendent, who promised communication with Lincoln County officials. However, she alleges it was a lie.

Furthermore, she claims the school hindered the investigation by withholding contact information for the athlete’s parents or guardians.

I’m very easy going.. so I tried to just let bygones be bygones, because at the end of the day these are kids & I wish every youth athlete the best & didn’t want to do anything to tarnish anyone’s future. The mom in me just wouldn’t let me hold my tongue any longer. I feel like I haven’t done enough as a mother or failed my child for better words!

Deasia Thompson

The personal toll has been severe, and Thompson lost her job due to excessive time off caring for her injured son.

While her specific case remains unconfirmed by official sources, North Carolina law has clear requirements for how schools must address bullying and harassment.

An incident like this can meet the legal definition if it creates a reasonable fear for safety or a hostile learning environment.

Thompson posted her story after the Shelby team’s championship game, stating she did not want to detract from the athletes’ moment but now feels compelled to raise awareness.

Her post has garnered significant support from the online community, with many urging her to pursue accountability from the school, district, and insurers.

SUE the school, the property insurance and the district. File a lawsuit with the kid individually and parents. Sue for medical expenses and pain and suffering (ptsd)
Oh and please believe I know a lawyer that won’t mind helping you.
