A disturbing incident at Gaston School sparked concern among parents and community members after a five-year-old student reportedly experienced an assault on the school playground while teachers were present.
According to Brian Brewster, the child’s grandfather, the young girl was allegedly trapped on a slide by another student, who reportedly lay on top of her and attempted to unbutton her pants.
The situation was only resolved when another five-year-old student intervened.
In a Facebook post, Brewster shared his outrage, noting that both children informed a teacher of the incident, only to be dismissed with the remark “quit tatteling.”
Following a meeting with the teacher and the school dean, Brewster was reportedly told, “this happens with 5-year-olds.” He stated,
I always thought teachers and faculty are responsible for kids when in school, and I thought that assault is form of bullying and could be a crime.
Brian BrewsterThe incident raises serious questions about supervision and accountability on school playgrounds.
He noted that when he picks up his granddaughter, there are typically four teachers on the playground. He asked,
How can’t they see or hear MY GRANDBABY yelling for help,it took another 5 year old girl to intervene. So who do I go to?
Brian BrewsterSocial media users quickly responded to the post with support and calls for action. Ciara Bethany encouraged Brewster to “raise hell” and suggested exploring options to move the child to another school, such as Lincoln Academy, due to the “absurb circumstances.”
Brewster replied that he is attempting to get her admitted.
Other commenters focused on accountability and potential consequences for the students involved.
Nik Nak Walter emphasized the need for support for both children, stating,
Go to the school district and demand some consequences. Who is this little boy smh. He needs HELP too wtf is wrong with these parents
Nik Nak WaltersSimilarly, Mike Clark advised putting pressure on the school by contacting local news outlets. He said,
Put the school on blast contact the local news
Mike ClarkSeveral commenters urged the family to involve law enforcement. Marki Miller wrote, “Make a police report,” and Helen Cowell-Crary reinforced this, recommending that the Safe program interview the child to ensure her account cannot be altered or suppressed.
Cowell-Crary further urged the family to escalate the matter beyond the school district, suggesting involvement from state authorities. She wrote,
I agree file a police report let the Safe program talk to your grandbaby that way her story cant be changed by some switching her words up or make her scared the YMCA I believe will get involved on your grand behalf This shit is NOT ok even worse someone telling her not to tattle is the same as ‘groomers’ scaring the s out of kids…GO file a police report AND also not only go to the school district go to the STATE of Wisconsin for help
Helen Cowell-CrarySharis de Santos emphasized parental responsibility, stating,
They see más absorb that kind of education at home!!! The parents should be blamed!!!!
Sharis de SantosThe incident at Gaston School underscores ongoing concerns about student safety, supervision, and the appropriate response of school staff when allegations of assault are reported.
Experts note that schools have a legal and ethical duty to protect students from harm, and incidents of assault, regardless of the age of the children involved, require serious attention and proper investigation.
As the conversation continues online, community members are rallying to ensure that the child receives protection and that the school takes meaningful action.
Brewster’s post has become a platform for parents, guardians, and concerned citizens to demand accountability, highlighting the challenges schools face in balancing supervision, disciplinary action, and child welfare.
While the school has not yet released an official statement regarding the incident, the public outcry has drawn attention to the need for clearer policies and staff training to prevent future occurrences.
Parents and community advocates stress that dismissing such incidents as typical childhood behavior is unacceptable, particularly when a child’s safety and dignity are at stake.
The case continues to develop as Brewster explores legal and administrative channels to seek justice for his granddaughter, while the community remains vocal in its demand for systemic changes to ensure that all children at Gaston School can play and learn in a safe environment.
