A former assistant wrestling coach, Logan Moyer, has died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound following a shooting early Friday morning at Stewartville High School, according to the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said dispatchers received a 911 call around 5:00 a.m. on Friday, December 12, 2026, reporting a shooting in the school’s parking lot.
Deputies responding to the scene found two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.
One victim was identified as a teenage male student-athlete, whose name has not been released.

Investigators said the student was shot while walking toward a bus that was preparing to transport approximately 40 coaches and student-athletes to a wrestling tournament.
He was rushed to a hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery and remains in critical condition.
Nearby, deputies discovered an adult male deceased from what investigators believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A rifle was found at the scene.
The deceased was later identified as Logan Moyer, a former assistant wrestling coach at the school.
Sheriff Kevin Torgerson confirmed that Moyer had previously been terminated from his coaching position.
Investigators are currently examining the nature of Moyer’s relationship with the student victim. No motive has been disclosed at this time.
According to multiple sources, Moyer arrived at the school during the early morning hours while the team was loading buses.
After the student was shot, other coaches reportedly attempted to intervene.
Moments later, a second gunshot was heard, which investigators believe was when Moyer took his own life.
In response to the incident, classes were canceled for the day at both Stewartville High School and Stewartville Middle School, and the district also canceled the Friday night basketball game against Lourdes.
During a news briefing, Sheriff Torgerson said the incident has deeply affected the community.
“This incident has impacted far more than just the individuals involved,” Torgerson said. “We ask the community to come together and support those who have been affected.”
Kevin TorgersonStewartville Superintendent Belinda Selfors echoed those sentiments, calling the day “incredibly difficult” for the community.
“In times like these, it is important that we come together to support one another,” Selfors said. “We also ask for patience and compassion as the investigation continues.”
